This position is responsible for new product development and maintenance of business in the Industrial Wood team.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads new product development/commercialization projects through collaboration, planning, executing, and analysis of experiments with clear and accurate results. Activities includes:
o Communication/collaboration with other Divisions/functions within Sherwin-Williams and with external companies for new technology scouting
o Formulation development, modification and testing of new coating systems
o Manufacturing support of new product scale-up
o Technical support for application trials at customer sites
o Communication of results and conclusions, written and/or verbal, to Technical, Marketing, Sales and external customers as necessary
- Test products to industry specifications and write professional reports to the field.
- Interacts with internal and external customers and finds solutions to complex technical problems (product/process).
- Demonstrates significant knowledge and use of chemicals, raw materials, substrates, application equipment and testing equipment.
- Works within a team environment and provides support to other team members on projects and team needs.
- Performs daily tasks following Sherwin-Williams Performance Coatings Group, PCG, quality system guideline.
- Works safely and maintains a safe working environment. Maintains and operates a variety of laboratory equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
- 8 years of lab experience working with products and technologies including but not limited to, 100% Solids UV coatings, WB UV coatings, 2K urethane products/technology, including 3-5 years in Wood Coatings
- Proven track record of successful new product development, scale up and commercialization.
- Industry experience, preferably in development, formulation and testing of polymer-based coating systems.
- Excellent project planning, prioritizing, and executing capability.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to develop and present detailed complex presentations to upper management and customers.
- Strong project leadership capabilities requiring minimal direct supervision.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master Degree or higher in a Polymer Science related area
- 15 years of formulation experience in Wood Coatings
- In-depth understanding of coating formulation and polymer structure-property relationship.
- Design of Experiment and Design for Six Sigma
Travel Requirements: 20%
