Job Details

The Operator is responsible for the successful completion of hydro excavation processes. The incumbent operates Hydrovac and other machines used in construction to excavate, load, dig or break rocks or debris, dirt, or other materials.

The Operator acts as crew lead, responsible for the completion of projects in a safe and timely manner. Safe Operations of Truck and Its Equipment.

• Responsible for the successful completion of hydro excavation projects including utility line exposure, debris removal, slot trenching, and digging
• Operate trucks and equipment in a safe and professional manner
• Supervise activities of Laborers in order to ensure employee skill development
• Set up and inspect grounding and / or bonding procedures for operation
• Complete all required paperwork properly and within set time lines
• Perform pre and post-trip inspections, as well as routine maintenance
• Performing Required Daily Vacuum Excavation Tasks
• Potholing Existing Underground Utilities for HDD Work
• Pole Holes, Anchors, and Trench Work for Company Divisions
• Exposing Existing Underground Utilities for New Placement and Maintenance Work
• Repetitive Lifting of Vac Piping Connections

Success Factors :

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shift
• Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling
• Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions
• Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers
• Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
• English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports
• Knowledge of basic underground utilities
• Skills in operating heavy equipment and machines proficiently and safely
• Ability to use time and equipment efficiently to complete projects on time
• Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment
• Mechanical aptitude
• Mapping and Print Reading
• Ability to work in confined spaces
• Minimum of 1 year of related experience or training
• Mechanical ability; and knowledge of equipment and heavy vehicle operation, maintenance, and repair
• Willingness and ability to learn additional skills Experience and Education :
• One (1 ) plus years of experience digging and working around underground utilities is required
• Two (2 ) plus years of demonstrated experience in dry utilities preferred
• Class B CDL Required w / Tanker and Air Break Endorsements
• Experience reading basic prints and Underground Facility Location Sketch is preferred
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis

Additional Requirements / Licenses / Certifications :

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
• Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Weekends as needed
• Heavy equipment operation : 1 year (Preferred) License / Certification :
• CDL A (Required)
• Tanker Endorsement (Required)
• Air Brake Endorsement (Required)
• Hazmat Endorsement (Required)
