The Center for Workforce Inclusion is recruiting for a Silviculture Mentor position to work in the grant-administered US Forest Service ACES Program (55 years of age or older) at the Chippewa National Forest, Walker Ranger District Office in Walker, Minnesota.
Role and Responsibilities: Primary responsibility is to work on prescriptions for the West Zone as well as providing mentoring and coaching to reforestation or silviculture personnel in the development, planning, and application of silvicultural methods and practices. Duties include but are not limited to performing the following:
Qualifications and Education Requirements: Successful candidates must meet the age criteria of being 55 years of age or older and eligible to work in the United States; possess a BA/BS in Forestry, Natural Resources or related field of study; 25 years of experience in a related field; certification as a US Forest Service Silviculturist; possess knowledge of professional forestry land management principles, practices, and concepts; knowledge of silvics, dendrology, reforestation methods, timber stand improvement principles and techniques, and harvest systems; familiarity with related fields such as wildlife, landscape architecture, plant genetics, hydrology, and soil science; knowledge of the interrelationship of physical factors (including climate characteristics such as temperature, precipitation, and movement and composition of the air, and soil conditions such as texture, structure and depth, moisture capacity and drainage, and nutrient content) and biological planting and seeding programs.
Hours & Compensation: Part-Time position working 20 hours per week @ $42.00 per hour.
