Job Summary
The Cambridge Plant Strategy and Factory Performance Manager is accountable for leading and driving the five-year strategic and productivity plans for the site. They will use analytic data, gap analysis, external benchmarking and technical information to provide reliable tools and processes for decision making, strategic design and capabilities and continuous improvement. They will also act as the resource for Factory Performance and Reliability standards. This includes ensuring data accuracy, self-assessments, supporting the Operational Excellence (OE) audit program, and management of SDM RCA process, among other tasks.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Participate in the Reimagined Strategy to provide proper guidance and roadmap of strategic activities needed in a 3-5 years time frame to meet Financial and Sustainability ambitions.
Participate in the development and execution of special projects, evaluate plant efficiencies and future capacities to Build End of mind values. The purpose of these projects could be to address any particular need of the moment (e.g. Develop strategy and drive a product and materials portfolio simplification plan that benefits Plant Performance and Resilience), or projects identified as development opportunities for the benefit of the Manufacturing Strategy Manager.
Lead and Coordinate Monthly Performance Reviews (including Efficiency, Losses, Financials and related critical metrics). Reviews in 3 stages (1. Internal, 2. Managerial local, and 3. Collaboration with All Regions through Planning/SNP and Net Ops). Including tracking performance improvement plans based on systematic mentality. Control and communicate production standards, including line rates, headcount, scrap, segmentation.
Collaborate with plant leadership to ensure that FP&R activities are aligned with the site’s Capacity Growth Plan – Equipment Master Plan, Operational Strategy, Labor and People Strategy and Communication Strategies.
Develop and communicate a clear Site responsibility matrix to identify key roles and responsibilities related to FP&R Standards implementation.
Ensure that annual FP&R self-assessments are conducted and the site action plan is updated.
Partner with site leadership to implement a system to ensure that critical metric performance is supervised and communicated
Develop and own the continuous improvement systems as established by FP&R guidelines and standards by conducting regular data driven CI reviews, coordinating cross-functional evaluations of CI projects through return on investment (ROI), Continuous Improvement Plans (CIP) and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and ensure CI project timelines to achieve optimization initiatives.
Partner with FP&R Leader and site Operations Manager and develop a site-wide approach to ensure that current standard procedures are available for line operations, changeovers, and inspections within the factory.
Partner with focus factory management, team leaders and FP&R leader to coordinate 5S implementation across all individual equipment, lines, tools and production/general areas.
Ensure that systems are in place to display visual elements using consistent color and symbol standards in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Partner with the site EOHS Leader and Quality Manager to ensure that the Site Visual Workplace Plan should include all EOHS Standard and Quality Facility Standard performance expectations.
Partner with operations to ensure that Visual Workplace Work Area Information Centers are placed in appropriate locations and are kept up to date.
Ensure that plans are in place so that Visual Displays communicate all static information requirements as outlined in the 5S & Visual Workplace Standard.
Support the Category Focus Factory Manager/Area Leader to implement the Standard Daily Meeting as outlined in the Standard.
Establish a system to review Standard Daily Meeting Metrics periodically to ensure continuous improvement.
Partner with Plant Management to develop and implement a step-wise plan to progress autonomous maintenance through the following major steps: Establish Basic Equipment. Condition, Perform Daily Inspection and Basic Maintenance, Drive Continuous Improvement and Quality (additional details on these steps can be found in the FP&R Autonomous Maintenance Standard).
Partner with the Maintenance and Engineering to ensure the following:
Roles and responsibilities for the Planned Maintenance Program are assigned to specific resources.
A system is established to review Planned Maintenance Metrics periodically to ensure continuous improvement.
All equipment and infrastructure has a Maintenance Plan that meets performance expectations as outlined in the FP&R Planned Maintenance Standard.
Spare parts management system is established and implemented as outlined in the FP&R Planned Maintenance Standard.
Periodically review Maintenance Plans to confirm optimization (condition based maintenance) for preventive and predictive maintenance based on historical equipment performance.
Support standardization of maintenance procedures.
Fully understand and support implementation of SAP PM.
Partner with the Production Planning to ensure:
Production schedules are derived from the demand plans as provided by demand planning, cross-border sourcing and/or specialty packaging.
Production planning is completed using SAP PP/DS with all MRP runs in SAP to ensure accuracy of raw/ingredient and packing material inventory and reorder points.
Exceptions to the production plan are communicated to demand planning/materials management, production/line scheduling and customer/consumer marketing (MFSTs) on a weekly basis.
Monthly meetings are conducted with demand planning/materials management, production/line scheduling and customer/consumer marketing to ensure that future changes in demand and production capacity are communicated and resolved in a timely manner.
Improvements in FP&R and cycle time should be reflected in reduced target inventory levels for finished goods, as appropriate.
Master data should be kept up to date (e.g., BOM, Rate Routings, Work Centers).
Factory capacity utilization is updated once the monthly forecast has been released
Partner with Plant management and Human Resources to ensure:
Designated operational positions are identified and filled by fully competent or certified people.
The requirements of the FP&R People Capability Standard are successfully implemented. This includes, but is not limited to: job descriptions for all operating and coordinating level positions, training and development plans and tracking
Periodic skill gap analyses are conducted and with appropriate results.
Systems are in place to transfer and share knowledge from problem resolution, design and operational enhancements throughout the facility.
Ensure that line sponsors and natural work teams are identified.
Ensure that roles and responsibilities of Operators, Mechanics, Team Leaders, Focus Factory Management and Engineering are identified.
Partner with Human Resources to ensure that operators are trained on Basic Equipment Condition, Initial and Ongoing Cleaning and Basic Problem Solving.
Formal opportunities are provided for employees to develop multiple skills that are consistent with site labor strategy and work environment.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field
8 years of manufacturing/production/operations experience
Demonstrate experience using strong analytical skills
Basic understanding of, and experience with, functions such as Operations, Logistics, Planning, Quality, & Finance
Strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
Demonstrate working knowledge of computers with a special focus on spreadsheets and database skills
Demonstrate experience and results that have both a customer focus and results-orientation in an environment that requires multi-tasking
Preferred Qualifications:
Mechanical background
2 years people management experience
Experience bringing to bear FP&R principles and Lean Six Sigma processes
Technical proficiency including:
Experience using ROI, Continuous Improvement Tools or FMEA tools
