    Job Description

Nevada State College (NSC) invites applications for the position of Academic Advisor. The Academic Advisor will provide high quality, proactive advising support to NSC students, while also coordinating initiatives that utilize high impact academic coaching practices. In addition to more conventional, academic advising support (e.g., degree planning), these coaching practices include learning strategies, skill development, and non-cognitive training (e.g., academic mindset) that can promote the success of a largely first-generation student population.

Reporting to the Director of Academic Advising, this individual will work in the Academic Advising Center (AAC), which serves and supports the entire NSC undergraduate population from enrollment to graduation in a centralized advising center located in the Raker Student Success Building. The individual in this position has the opportunity to contribute greatly to the development of an expanding academic advising program that aspires to become a model of excellence for student support. This individual should have an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong desire to collaborate with faculty and staff to improve student success outcomes. Successful academic advisors at NSC are defined by a strong work ethic, innovative spirit, data-driven philosophy, and a desire to contribute to the development of a modern institution in substantive ways. The atmosphere they engender is one of enthusiasm, dedication, camaraderie, and effective collaboration.

Nevada State supports flexible working options as outlined in the recently approved Alternative Work Arrangement Policy. This position may be eligible for an Alternative Work Arrangement. Unless stated otherwise, all positions are required Nevada residency and on-site work.

Most of these ranges have endorheic valleys between them, which belies the image portrayed by the term Great Basin. Much of the northern part of the state is within the Great Basin, a mild desert that experiences hot temperatures in the summer and cold temperatures in the winter. Occasionally, moisture from the Arizona Monsoon will cause summer thunderstorms; Pacific storms may blanket the area with snow. The state's highest recorded temperature was 125 °F (52 °C) in Laughlin (e...
