    Job Description

We seek to grow the number of outstanding educators in our schools through the Baker Teaching Fellowship program, named after KIPP Jacksonville’s founding board chairman, John D. Baker II. The Fellowship provides focused development, support, and structure to individuals launching a career in urban public education. This program is ideal for those graduating from an education preparation program, an alternative certification program, or for those who have passed a Florida subject area certification exam.

Under the direction of our fellowship managers and school leaders, fellows are placed as co-teachers during their fellowship year and are certified teachers in our classrooms. As certified educators, fellows are responsible for creating a positive classroom environment, implementing our curriculum, assessing students, collaborating with their team, building relationships with families, and other duties as assigned. Full teacher responsibilities are ultimately outlined by their school leader.

The Fellowship model allows fellows to co-teach in their fellowship year with a gradual release model. Fellows are placed strategically in one grade level and have meaningful ‘at-bats’ at instructional practices, whole and small group instruction, and managing a classroom. Fellows take on additional responsibilities as the year progresses. Fellows are supported as both individuals and as a cohort through frequent coaching and professional development sessions. At the elementary level, fellows are placed in primary grades classrooms with an experienced lead teacher. They co-teach one classroom of students all core content subjects. At the secondary level, fellows are placed typically in 5th,6th,9th, or 10th grade with an experienced lead teacher. They lead portions of whole group instruction and small group instruction in one specific content area.

The aim of the program is for a fellow to be promoted to a lead teacher position the following school year. Placement is dependent on certification and identified openings. The initial grade level placement of a fellow does not have to dictate where their lead teacher offer can come from. Fellows have the ability to preference grade levels for their fellowship year and future roles. We do not guarantee grade level placements at the time of offers.

    OUR CURRENT BENEFITS STRUCTURE

    • Full-time salary during the fellowship year is $47,500. Upon successful completion of the program and an offer of a first-year lead teacher position, the salary increases to $50,000.

    • Free individual medical benefits (medical, dental, and vision), short and long-term disability insurance *

    •  403(b) retirement program with a company match *

    • To support teacher practice and their growth, all teaching fellows teachers receive individualized coaching and professional development.

***This offering is subject to change each school year. Terms would be outlined in an offer letter, if issued.
