Anesthesia Technician assists Anesthesiologist by setting-up equipment and preparing medications. Orders, stocks, tests, and maintains anesthesia supplies, medications, and equipment. Being an Anesthesia Technician washes and sterilizes re-usable equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel. Performs safety checks on anesthesia equipment and assists the Anesthesiologist as needed. Additionally, Anesthesia Technician may also be required to complete Anesthesia Technician trainee program. May require an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Anesthesia Technician works under moderate supervision. Uses knowledge of sterile technique to assist with central line and pulmonary artery catheter placement. Performs all duties of an anesthesia technician.

Under the direction of the Anesthesia Manager and Lead Anesthesia Technician assists staff Anesthesiologist in performing a variety of anesthesia preparations and procedures in the Operating Room setting and in remote anesthetizing locations. Supports the anesthesia team by preparing, maintaining, and cleaning equipment used within an anesthetic course. Troubleshoots anesthesia equipment failures. Taking into consideration the age and development needs of each patient, sets up equipment, monitoring, and rapid blood delivery devices, for intra-operative use. Transports blood samples for laboratory analysis. Readies anesthetizing location and anesthesia equipment for subsequent use at the end of each case.
