Animal Technician jobs in Florence, SC

Animal Technician provides daily care for research animals of various species. Cleans and disinfects cages and equipment. Being an Animal Technician monitors the health and well being of the animals, maintains logs of animal diet, behavior, vital signs and other data. Follows standard operating procedures and all biosafety and animal welfare regulations. Additionally, Animal Technician may perform procedures to collect samples. May transport animals to and from laboratories. Requires a high school diploma. May require Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) or other certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Animal Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.     Hewitt Animal Hospital is looking for a Veterinary Technician to join us as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.
    As a Veterinary Technician you’ll play an important role in pets’ lives by providing end-to-end care for our precious patients. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to support services including admitting and discharging patients.
    Role Responsibilities:
    • Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients.
    • With each hospital function, assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
    • Assist with surgeries and procedures in accordance with your state's Veterinary Practice Act outlined for credentialed veterinary technicians.
    • Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, and additional treatments.
    • Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems.
    • Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts.
    • Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
    • Be willing to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members.
    • Assist veterinarians in providing care for patients including appointments, surgeries, supportive care, and diagnostics
    • Perform safe restraint techniques
    • Obtain patient histories and maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records
    • Blood draw
    • IV catheter placement
    • Drug calculations
    • Anesthesia monitoring
    • Dental prophylaxis
    • Radiology
    • Laboratory duties; fecal exam, urinalysis, run blood-work and prepare samples.
    • Monitor hospitalized patients
    • Admit and discharge patients
    • Client communication and education
    • Prepare and administer vaccines and medications
    • Maintain cleanliness of hospital and grounds
    Experience & Skills Requirements:
    • Prefer one year of recent experience in a small animal hospital
    • Commitment to working within a team environment
    • Positive, will-do attitude!
    • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
    • Proven ability to multi-task in a busy work setting
    • Professional demeanor and outgoing personality
    • Computer experience is required
    • Ability to multi-task and be proactive
    • Ability to triage, prioritize and possess excellent time management skills.
    • Close attention to detail is crucial
    • Ability to communicate with staff and clients in a professional and respectful manner

    Compensation negotiable based on credentials and experience with a hourly pay rate starting at $15 / hour The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
