About us:
The Reno County Historical Society was formed in 1960 and the original museum opened in 1963. In 1986, the Reno County Museum was relocated from Haven’s Township Hall to the Great American Life Insurance Building and the Rosemont Apartment Building in Hutchinson, KS. Strataca is located in the Hutchinson Salt Company mine, which began operating in 1923 under the name Carey Salt Company. The mine is 650 feet underground and features exhibits, tours, and special events.
About the role:
Under general supervision, the museum assistant will help with various activities to support the operation and programming of the museum.

Education requirements:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. College coursework in museum studies, history, anthropology, or related disciplines relevant to museum work is preferred.
Experience:
Experience with museum procedures, PastPerfect version 5.0, and customer service is preferred, but not required.
Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication, comfortable with customer service and community outreach, collections management and record keeping, general computer skills, office procedures and handling of office equipment, interest in local and state history, attention to detail, organization, ability to work with others or by oneself
Physical demands and working conditions:
Employees will primarily work in a temperature-controlled environment with limited noise level, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. This position requires walking between work areas and climbing stairs, finger dexterity for operating computers, standard office equipment, and managing fragile artifacts, vision to read printed materials and computer screens, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. This position also includes bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing and pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance from others or proper equipment.
