In addition, the Assistant Principal implements policies and directives as assigned by the Maynard Public Schools. Working closely with the Principal, the Assistant Principal implements policies and directives promoting the success of all students, accountability in all practices, and fiscal responsibility. The Assistant Principal serves as a member of the Maynard Leadership Team and works with the Principal and staff in implementing initiatives of the district. The following list of major responsibilities is reflective of the primary role of this position. However, other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Principal as needed. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Educational Leadership: •Understands methods and approaches to organizational change and uses these in creating and maintaining a healthy school climate which promotes dialogue and the exchange of ideas leading to increased student learning •Communicates the school and district vision, goals, needs, and accomplishments to students, school personnel, families and the community •Establishes and maintains a healthy school climate focusing on the learning of students and staff •Promotes ongoing communication with parents and community agencies, effectively involving them in the education of children •Facilitate data-driven analysis and discussions with instructional staff regarding student performance •Assist the Principal in the preparation and management of the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) and other school wide assessments •Collaborates with the Principal, Team Chairs, Director of Student Services, and Director of Curriculum to observe and evaluate instructional staff to promote ongoing improvement School Management: •Demonstrates effective management of the Green Meadow Elementary School by collaborating with staff in decision-making, team building, and developing a positive school culture, which fosters improving learning and teaching •Oversees the management of the daily operations of the building, school facilities, and services •Lead the planning and implementation of a comprehensive Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program that includes standards, curriculum, and assessments, ultimately integrating SEL into core instructional practices •Maintains respectful, honest, open, and effective communication with school staff, the Central Office, parents, and community members; apprises the Principal of significant events occurring at Green Meadow Elementary School •Coordinates information technology at the school level to ensure consistency with the district technology plan and sound fiscal actions •Foresees potential difficult, negative, and/or volatile situations and takes productive steps to prevent them from happening •Observes all conditions of contracts and uses conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation strategies to resolve conflict Equity: •Acts with cultural competence and responsiveness in interactions, data-driven decision-making, and practice •Uses an equity lens to address institutional biases of student marginalization, deficit-based schooling, and low expectations associated with minoritized populations •Shares power and responsibility in education by collaborating with the Principal to develop effective parent engagement groups that represent all families and creating opportunities for parent and family leadership •Ensures equitable access and inclusion for all students and families and actively works to ensure our diverse student body is reflected in a wide variety of educational settings •Participate in team meetings for student wraparound services including, but not limited to: Building Based Support Team (child study team), attendance matters, mental health initiatives, school health services, and discipline to assist in developing in-classroom Tier I and II supports for all students •Oversee periodic assessments of building culture and climate, using the results to develop targeted improvement programs Community Engagement •Develops and communicates opportunities for families to contribute to the classroom and the school •Models strategies and supports staff in collaborating with families to support student behavior and engagement both at home and at school •Models effective culturally proficient communication with families about student behavior and supports staff in developing such skills •Addresses family concerns in an equitable, effective, and efficient manner •Promotes outstanding programs and performances by faculty and students at the Green Meadow Elementary School to the Maynard School Committee, the Maynard Community, and local media platforms Professional Development: •Collaborates with the Principal to develop an effective and comprehensive site professional development program with staff members which focuses on the goals of the Green Meadow Elementary School and which is consistent with district staff development goals and objectives •Models ongoing professional development through personal scholarship, reflective practices, and serving as a teacher of teachers •Applies knowledge of adult learning to effective staff development programs •Provides resources and opportunities to enhance staff performance •Administers services and programs which acknowledge the diverse needs of both seasoned educators and new teachers QUALIFICATIONS: •Excellent interpersonal skills •Excellent written and verbal communication skills •Knowledge of the developmental needs of children, including their academic, social, and emotional needs •Strong foundation in student-centered teaching theories and pedagogy with knowledge of elementary school philosophy and teaching in heterogeneous classrooms •Strong expertise in the development of literacy and numeracy skills •Strong knowledge of the Massachusetts Standards-Based curriculum and the principles of UDL •Working knowledge of SEL instruction and supports •Broad knowledge of the organization of school personnel with flexible approaches to school organization •A strong belief that all children can meet high academic standards •Demonstrated commitment to, and understanding of, diversity, equity, inclusion, cultural proficiency, and anti-racist education •Demonstrated operational management skills •Demonstrated commitment to parent involvement in schools •Commitment to professional development for self and others •Understanding of technology as a teaching and learning tool •Knowledge of Massachusetts Frameworks and education regulations •In-depth understanding of the Massachusetts Educational Evaluation System, including conducting observations and writing evaluations and Educator Plans •Knowledge of national education regulations •Experience teaching or leading in a diverse the elementary school level required •Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education licensure as a Principal/Assistant Principal •Knowledge of the developmental needs of children, including their academic, social, and emotional needs •Strong foundation in student-centered teaching theories and pedagogy with knowledge of elementary school philosophy and teaching in heterogeneous
