      MIDDLE SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

      POSITION SUMMARY: Massabesic Middle School seeks an experienced educational leader who is committed to the growth, development, and academic achievement of adolescent learners. The ideal candidate will have a child-centered focus, comprehensive understanding of the social and emotional needs of young adolescents, strong classroom experience, and leadership skills. They will have the skills to support a safe learning environment; an understanding of and experience with effective student and personnel management; excellent communication skills; and an ability to work collaboratively with students, families, staff, and the community.

      REPORTS TO: Building Principal

      QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Valid Maine Assistant Building Administrator (045) or Building Administrator certification
      • Minimum of five years of teaching experience with middle level experience preferred
      • Master’s degree from accredited institution preferred

      PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Build collaborative relationships and lead the school’s mission, vision, and goals to support the academic and socioemotional success of all students.
      • Implement processes and procedures that will further building and District goals and comply with mandated requirements.
      • Focus school resources and personnel on student achievement for student growth.
      • Manage a variety of school administrative functions (e.g. student discipline, school schedule, after school programs, assigned personnel, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing school, district, and state policy and maintaining safety and efficiency of school operations.
      • Establish relationships with school stakeholders, parents, and community members to bring together school and community.
      • Foster a collegial environment that supports teacher leadership, collaboration, and growth.
      • Supervise school personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth, and achieving overall objectives of the school's curriculum.
      • Support the principal for the purpose of providing assistance with administrative functions.
      • Work with the building principal to determine their strengths as an instructional leader and assume roles that align to those strengths in order to maximize the ability of the administrative team.
      • Perform other duties as assigned by the superintendent and/or the building principal.

      TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary, work year, and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.

      EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation.
