Assoc. Professor - Computer Science teaches courses in the discipline area of computer science. Professor - Computer Science provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - Computer Science typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks.     We are seeking an experienced, adaptable, and approachable computer science teacher to join our PK-8 school community. As a computer science teacher, you will play a crucial role in cultivating a strong foundation in computational thinking and problem-solving skills among students. Your responsibilities will include designing and delivering engaging lesson plans that cover various aspects of computer science, such as programming, algorithms, and technology applications. You will guide students in developing their coding skills, computational creativity, and a deep understanding of the principles of computer science, while also fostering collaboration and teamwork.

    Our computer science program starts with our youngest students and expands into opportunities to participate in design challenges and showcase projects in the Upper School. By becoming a part of our faculty, you will be instrumental in shaping a dynamic learning experience for students in the Lower School (PK-4) and Upper School (5-8). Through interactive classroom sessions, small group instruction, and hands-on learning opportunities, you will inspire computational thinking and technological innovation in our students. In the Upper School, your role will involve guiding students through a comprehensive exploration of computer science, encompassing programming languages, algorithms, and the practical applications of technology. Our interdisciplinary approach ensures that computer science education remains relevant, updated, and closely connected with other subjects, providing students with a well-rounded education that nurtures their unique interests and passions.

    The Sage School is a Pre-K through Grade 8 school enrolling 160 students in Foxboro, MA.     Responsibilities will include

    • Teach sections of early childhood through 8th grade computer science
    • Communicate in a timely and professional manner with all community stakeholders, including parents
    • Knowledge of varied teaching strategies to differentiate learning approach; hands-on approach to teaching and learning that is engaging for all students
    • Actively participate in the development of the science department and computer science curriculum
    • Maintain an active presence and participate fully in campus life by attending school events and activities when possible.
    • Assume additional responsibilities (e.g., serving on committees and advising clubs) in other areas of school life
    • Stay current with the latest developments and research in computer science education by attending professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge
    • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to develop interdisciplinary projects and integrate humanities concepts across the curriculum

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, education, and/or related arts field (Master's degree preferred)
    • Prior experience teaching computer science to students across a variety of ages
    • Familiarity with inquiry-based learning and hands-on, experiential teaching methods
    • Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
    • A collaborative mindset and a commitment to professional growth and lifelong learning
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing
    • A positive attitude, a flexible approach, and a sense of humor
