Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Assoc. Professor - History provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - History typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. The Department of History at Smith College invites applications for a 1-year, benefits eligible position at the rank of Lecturer to begin July 1, 2024 with a specialization in the history of science and medicine. The temporal and regional specialization is flexible, excluding the history of the United States.. Teaching responsibilities for this position will regularly include a first-year seminar and four additional courses developed in consultation with the department. By the time of appointment, the applicant should have a Ph.D. in History, however, ABD candidates will be considered. Candidates from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
