    Position Summary:

    The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Department of the Wallace H. Coulter School of Engineering at Clarkson University invites applications for two (2) tenure track positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in Aerospace Engineering starting in the 2024/25 academic year (August 1, 2024 preferred). These positions will consider hires at both the Assistant and Associate professor rank. Applicants at the Associate rank that have a robust research portfolio and demonstrated excellence in teaching are especially encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering or related area is required. Applications are sought from individuals with a research focus in space engineering, which may include, but is not limited to: guidance, navigation, and control (GNC); systems engineering and integration; space systems/vehicle design; space robotics and mechatronics, space logistics and manufacturing; space propulsion or other related areas of aerospace engineering.

    It is an exciting time for our program. Clarkson’s MAE Department recently expanded from Aeronautical to Aerospace Engineering and we are experiencing significant growth in the program. In addition to our M.S. and Ph.D degrees in Mechanical Engineering, the department now offers B.S. degrees in both Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering. We are looking for faculty with vision and motivation to join our department and contribute to the transformation of our Aerospace program.

    Successful candidates will be expected to teach fundamental undergraduate and graduate courses in Aerospace Engineering, develop strong externally-funded research programs, and engage students both inside and outside of the classroom. Applicants should provide a clear and substantiated vision of how their background will lead to transformative accomplishments through teaching, research, and an ability to engage in interdisciplinary activities and projects within one of the areas identified above. Applicants should also describe how they will foster and contribute to a diverse educational environment.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Develop a vibrant, externally funded research program
    • Teach undergraduate and graduate classes in the Aerospace curriculum
    • Advise undergraduate and graduate students within the MAE Department
    • Perform Departmental, University and Professional service consistent with the expectations of a tenure track faculty member

    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Doctorate in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Research interests in at least one of the areas identified above. A record of scholarship consistent with experience level. A commitment to teaching excellence.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience developing grant applications to appropriate funding sources. A strong record in teaching including development and/or demonstrated use of pedagogical techniques.
