Assoc. Professor - Sociology teaches courses in the discipline area of sociology. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Assoc. Professor - Sociology provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - Sociology typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Beloit College invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor/instructor position in Sociology beginning August 2024. This position is for a sabbatical replacement. It is a benefits eligible, full-time, non-renewable 9-month position, and includes teaching three courses per semester. The candidate will be expected to teach one Introduction to Sociology course and two Sociology electives each semester. Areas of specialty for electives are open, but we would be especially interested in sociology of education, the environment, immigration, and/or the media. Candidates are expected to have completed the requirements (or all requirements but the dissertation) for the Ph.D. degree by August 2024.
