Associate Dean of Continuing Education assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of continuing education. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Continuing Education provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Continuing Education typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Continuing Education typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     This position will be housed in the College of Education. Ph.D. or doctorate preferred, Master's degree required with an emphasis on curriculum and instruction.

    Five years of college teaching experience and three years of leadership experience in a College of Education. A distinguished record of teaching and service; experience with accreditation and program approval; a commitment to diversity; prior P-12 teaching experience; demonstrated success in the acquisition of external funding; collaborative work with the community and P-12 partners; experience in curriculum design, team building, problem-solving, accreditation, and project management. A current and active license in the discipline.

    Typical Responsibilities:

    • Provide oversight for clinical rotations, partnerships, and affiliation agreements
    • Assessment and the Office of School Partnerships
    • Oversee curriculum development, changes, and initiatives
    • Oversee faculty credentialing
    • Guide the process to develop/revise/implement department policies and procedures
    • Represent the department on committees and task forces
    • Develop/maintain internal and external relationships
    • Observe and provide feedback on faculty teaching
    • Oversight of academic, student issues, and appeals
    • Prepare and administer assigned budget
    • Provide leadership for program accreditation
    • Provide leadership for faculty and staff
    • Assist the dean with the development of course schedule and faculty teaching assignments for each program
    • Direct and oversee faculty and staff
    • Make hiring and disciplinary recommendations
    • Conduct performance evaluations
    • Oversee academic programs
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local program standards
    • Serve as Acting Dean in the Dean's absence
    • All other duties as assigned

    Position Summary:

    The classification is responsible for directing the activities of an assigned academic related department or program. Incumbents will develop strategies to accomplish goals, implement policies and procedures, and develop and monitor an assigned budget. Incumbents may need to perform professional level work within assignment and will supervise employees or student workers. This classification is different from previous class in the scope of responsibility.

    Requirements:

    Education:

    Master's degree in a related field to assigned area, doctorate preferred.

    Experience:

    Five years of college teaching experience including three years of leadership/managerial experience in a College of Education
