Associate Dean of Graduate Programs assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of a graduate program. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Graduate Programs provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Graduate Programs typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Graduate Programs typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Reporting to the Director of the Undergraduate Deans Office, the Associate Director partners with the Director in the management of all departmental programs and services. Through direct student advising and the supervision of the upper-class deans, the Associate Director supports undergraduate students’ intellectual and personal growth consistent with the mission of the College and facilitates the consistent, equitable administration of College policies and procedures.

    Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
    • Proven record of effectiveness in student advising and development of programs that address the needs of students from underrepresented backgrounds and promote student success.
    • Exceptional organizational skills, problem-solving, proficiency in teamwork, collaboration, flexibility, and strong communication to multiple audiences.
    • Capacity to foster strong and effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, families, and campus partners.
    • Solid foundation in student developmental theory and its application to professional practice in student affairs.
    • Commitment to DEI work in higher education.
    • Experience with on-call responsibilities and student crisis management.
    • Master’s Degree with 5-8 years of progressively responsible experience in undergraduate academic support services, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Professional experience in Student Affairs strongly preferred.
    • Experience working in the context of a highly selective liberal arts institution

    • Oversees recruitment, hiring, training, management and evaluation of the upper-level dean team (i.e., undergraduate deans for the sophomore, junior, and senior classes)
    • Provides day-to-day support and guidance for the upper-level dean team consistent with Undergraduate Deans Office policies and practices
    • Works with the Office Manager to develop and maintain office schedules to ensure appropriate coverage
