Associate Dean of Graduate Programs assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of a graduate program. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Graduate Programs provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Graduate Programs typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Graduate Programs typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Position Description:

    The University of Iowa College of Nursing seeks a leader with a deep commitment to academic excellence, collaboration, and student success for the position of Associate Dean of Graduate Practice Programs.


    The Associate Dean for Graduate Practice Programs has administrative leadership, oversight, and coordination, including responsibilities for the day-to-day academic operations of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs in the College of Nursing. This position works with the Executive Leadership Team and Academic/Student Services to ensure the quality and the vitality of the DNP and MSN programs.

    Education Requirement:

    • Earned doctorate in nursing or a doctorate in a related field with a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa

    • Eligibility for appointment as clinical associate or full professor; or a tenured associate or full professor.

    • Progressive experience in higher education with an emphasis on graduate education, minimum of two years of successful academic administrative or leadership experience.

    • Demonstrated experience in curriculum and/or program development and evaluation

    • Experience leading faculty and staff in curricular change and meeting accreditation standards and state board regulations.

    • Ability to inspire change and create a cohesive team/community within an academic health science center environment

    • Record of teaching excellence, innovation, and creativity in nursing education.

    • Demonstrated ability to foster belonging and inclusion.

    Desirable Qualifications:

    • Preference given to those with APRN and experience with APRN education.

    • Preference given to those knowledgeable of MSN and non-APRN DNP programs and curricula.
