Associate Dean of Humanities assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of humanities. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Humanities provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Humanities typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Humanities typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. The CAS Associate Dean for Administration, Operations & Planning (AOP) leads administration, operations and planning functions for the College working closely with CAS and university partners to effectively, efficiently and strategically manage curriculum delivery, enrollment, planning and reporting functions in CAS for undergraduate and graduate programs with a forward-looking and student-centered focus. Specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to stewardship of:
Reporting directly to the CAS Dean, the AOP Associate Dean is a key member of the CAS leadership team and will work collaboratively with other Associate and Assistant Deans and staff members, as well as Department Chairs, to collectively advance the work of the dean’s office. This is a full-time job focused on administrative responsibilities with a 12-month, 4-day per week in-person, 1 day per week remote schedule for a 3-year renewable appointment commencing July 1, 2024. Vacation and sick day benefits are earned with this position. Some continuing engagement in faculty responsibilities is expected with specifics to be determined upon appointment. To facilitate onboarding and leadership transition, there will be an opportunity to shadow the outgoing Associate Dean AOP in May/June.
Qualifications:
5 years teaching experience in CAS at Suffolk University
Tenured or non-tenure track status
Ph.D. or terminal degree appropriate in discipline
Leadership experience (not limited to department chair experience)
Learning orientation, with a keen interest in advancing the efficiency and efficacy of CAS
Track record of problem solving using outside-the-box thinking
Consultative, collaborative leadership style and a student-centered lens
Willingness and ability to champion new ideas and garner support from diverse stakeholders
Excellent attention to detail and follow through with strong sense of project ownership
Ability to use data to inform decisions and recommendations
