Associate Dean of Humanities assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of humanities. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Humanities provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Humanities typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Humanities typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     The Associate Dean assists the Dean in advancing the vision and in providing academic leadership in order to achieve high standards of excellence. The associate dean ensures continuous quality improvement in both instruction and services with measurable outcomes for coworkers and students. The Associate Dean promotes a collaborative, communicative working environment with other departments to promote the College's Mission and Vision and to provide a positive learning environment. The Associate Dean networks and builds relationships with all stakeholders to ensure excellence in faculty development and instructional delivery, while working within budget parameters. This position requires a flex schedule which may include occasional evenings and weekends. Associate Deans work to promote social justice within their division and the larger academic institution. Associate Deans support faculty development to encourage student learning and support social justice within the classroom utilizing Western's Educational Justice Framework of trauma-informed and poverty-informed practices, and culturally responsive teaching.

    Essential Functions

    1. Maintain and uphold the College values of Learning, Excellence, Accountability, Diversity, Student Success, Teamwork, Integrity, and Respect. Regular attendance is required.
    2. Complete all required College training and responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department.
    3. Student Success is the cornerstone of Western's culture and the college may assign employees as needed to other areas or additional duties to foster this success.
    4. Strategic planning - Supporting Action/Task May Include:

    • Assist with annual division and/or dept. planning and annual master planning
    • Collection and analysis of student success data
    • Develop and manage operational and capital budget in collaboration with the Dean
    5. Faculty Oversight - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
    • Provide supervisions, and direction and schedule assigned faculty and staff
    • Apply Quality Matters instrument to evaluation of course documents
    • Observe adjunct faculty in classroom when appropriate
    • Collaborate with Academic Excellence and area dean to coach faculty
    • Make recommendations for continuing employment of adjunct faculty
    • Meet with faculty to support program review
    • Coordinate with Institutional Research and General Studies staff to coordinate and collect data and reporting
    • Ensure compliance with college curriculum and delivery standards, review course syllabi
    6. Student Support - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
    • Supporting the academic progression of pre-program/wait-list students in Areas of Interest as well as students in the AA/AS programs
    • Tracking, analyzing, and publishing student success, retention, and other data
    • Develop and administer student supports based on data
    • Collaborate and consult with Advisors to support student success
    7. Manage internal/external customer relations - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
    • Collaborate and coordinate with internal/external stakeholders to ensure needs, services and program goals are being met including distance education
    • Lead/participate on college, statewide, program advisory and community committees
    8. Curriculum development - Supporting Actions May Include:
    • Coordinate with faculty and direct the review and implementation of program curricula
    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in related field OR
    • Bachelor's degree required in related field with a willingness to obtain a Master's degree within 5 years required
    • 3 years teaching experience

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Management experience
    • Experience leading DEI initiatives

    This position reports to: Dean - General Studies

    Starting annual salary range based on education and experience: $78,503 - $102,055

    This position would include competitive salary, along with a wide variety of benefits available to full-time Western Technical College Employees.
