Associate Dean of Adult Degree Completion and Online Programs

  • Summary Description:  As a direct report to the VPAA, the Associate Dean of Adult Degree Completion and Online Programs will have oversight of the strategy and operations of the Adult Degree Completion programs at Warner Pacific University, called Professional and Graduate Studies (PGS).  The position will provide leadership for online education programs and guiding faculty in effective educational delivery methods in collaboration with the WPU Canvas administrator.  The position will expand the online learning footprint through new program development and responding to student and local workforce needs. The position will collect data and make revenue and enrollment projections, which will impact course scheduling, staffing, and curriculum decisions. The Associate Dean will collaborate across all academic areas to support hiring decisions, faculty training, orientation, and development in instructional practices.  Also they will support curriculum development, assessment, and program review, with emphasis on online education. 

    Primary Job Duties:
    • Provide managerial oversight of the Adult Degree Completion and Online Programs (PGS) at the University.
    • Work cooperatively deans, department heads and faculty across all academic areas of the college to create academic programs and build program schedules, with attention to enrollment trends and budgetary concerns.
    • Work with various departments on instructor recruitment, hiring, orientation, and mentorship for PGS faculty. 
    • Oversee accuracy and contracts and payment for PGS faculty.
    • Engage in instructional design in various modes, with focus on effective online course delivery. Ensure quality course development and site builds in the Canvas environment in collaboration with the Canvas administrator at WPU. Implement “best practices” in online learning for adult students.
    • Participate in assessment activities for both courses and programs to ensure academic quality. Engage in course and faculty assessments in the online learning environment using schemas such as Quality Matters.
    • Actively work with Admissions Department to develop recruitment strategies.
    • Assess community needs and develop programs that are relevant to the regional workforce.
    • Integrates adult education learning theory into degree programs and understands the special needs of adult students to facilitate their retention and graduation.
    • Understand university degree requirements and interpret coursework to ensure relevancy and transferability of coursework in the programs and schedules.
    • Communicate and understand the aspects of the Admissions and Financial Aid departments. Effectively communicate with students around issues and serve as a resource.
    • Communicate effectively and problem solve with students, faculty and staff related to academic issues. 
    • Establish and manage data systems and collection for PGS and online education programs to ensure that program goals are being met, including attention to revenue and enrollment projections.
    • Work collaboratively with academic advising functions and cultivate positive transfer opportunities for students.
    • Design and implement new programs and curriculum for Adult Degree Completion and Online Programs   as appropriate.
    • Serve on various campus committees as requested.
    • Contribute to the support and implementation of the University Strategic Plan.
    • Participate in Warner Pacific University professional development opportunities.
    • Adhere to University policies and procedures.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of two years serving in educational administrative leadership.  OR
    • Master’s Degree and 1 year of educational administrative experience in higher education.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in online educational platforms and program delivery.
    • Strategic and organizational mindset with the ability to collaborate and communicate with all levels or the organization including internal and external constituencies.
    • Experience with assessment, program development, evaluation, faculty development, training.
    • Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems and initiate and initiate and implement projects independently. Ability to meet deadlines.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to understand and communicate financial information and enrollment data.
    • Proficient in computer programs including Windows, Outlook, Word and Excel, and facility learning various online platforms for data and budget information. 
    • Experience working with diverse populations.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience managing faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff, including recruitment, orientation and training
    • Experience in growth, development, and management of educational programs with attention to recruitment and enrollment strategies. 
    • Teaching experience, especially in a higher education environment.
    • Experience in grant writing and fundraising.
