    Position Summary:

    The Associate Director of Resource Development and Resiliency (“Associate Director”) will oversee VHCB’s federal grant navigation to assist with securing public funding sources to meet our programmatic needs and mission as well as resource and program development related to climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience, smart growth, and other opportunities to support the resiliency of conservation and affordable housing programs.

    Working with the Director of Policy and Special Projects and other members of VHCB’s Management Team, the Associate Director will:

    • support VHCB to identify federal and philanthropic funding and program opportunities that match VHCB’s mission and goals;
    • help to oversee special projects and strategic initiatives related to VHCB’s mission and goals for resiliency, including long-term policy planning efforts where appropriate (e.g. the Vermont Conservation Strategy Initiative); and
    • support the organization’s capacity to administer new funding streams and implement new programs in collaboration with our non-profit and government partners.

    This work will necessitate building relationships and collaborating broadly with state, regional and national coalitions to monitor the implementation of new federal and philanthropic programs and understand their potential uses in housing development, conservation, historic preservation and community resiliency. This is a new position and it is anticipated that workflow priorities will evolve over time as specific organizational priorities, as well as programmatic and funding opportunities, change.

    Qualifications:

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that include the ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to work cooperatively, productively, and creatively with others at all levels and abilities.
    • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to pivot and recalibrate in a quickly changing environment.
    • Ability to analyze complex problems and offer viable, creative solutions.
    • Experience as an applicant and successful grantee or administration of federal and state grant programs. Knowledge of their compliance and reporting requirements as well as general grant administration best practices.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the structure and operations of Vermont local governments, the Vermont State government, and the Vermont General Assembly.
    • Strong commitment to VHCB’s mission and objectives.
    • Database and spreadsheet proficiency.
    • Ability to analyze capacity and aptitude for systems improvement.
    • A valid State of Vermont driver’s license in good standing.
    • A bachelor’s degree in the fields of business, finance, economics, or public administration or comparable area required.
    • Five or more years of combined experience in: program development using public funds, budgeting, grant writing, and financial analysis.
    • Enthusiastic and self-motivated.
    • Experience with Windows-based computer software and Microsoft Office products.
