    Position Summary

    Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) invites applications for a full-time, visiting faculty position in its Department of English to begin August 2024. This is a 9-month position from the middle of August to the middle of May. The successful applicant will be able to serve as a generalist. Main responsibilities will include teaching lower-level core courses in Writing and/or History of Western Culture. Other responsibilities may include teaching upper-level courses in Grammar, History of the Language, and/or courses in British Literature and Shakespeare. Concordia University emphasizes classroom teaching, student advising, and active participation in campus life. This position reports to the English Department Chair and is located on the Mequon, WI campus.


    Job Duties & Responsibilities

    • Teach an academically diverse audience in lower-level core courses such as Introduction to Writing and Western Culture & Worldview (a general survey course covering major moments in western history and literature).
    • Teach majors in upper-level courses in English language and linguistics and/or English literature, based on appropriate expertise and experience.
    • Foster and support a welcoming and encouraging community in the English department for students.
    • Collaborate with other CU English faculty in program and course development and design.
    • Promote the mission of Concordia University to faculty, staff, students, and the community.
    • Concordia University values excellent classroom teaching and active participation in campus life.
    • Other duties as assigned

    Education & Experience

    A Master's degree in English and previous successful teaching experience in a university at the undergraduate level is required. Qualified applicants with a PhD in a relevant area or making meaningful progress toward such a PhD are preferred. Applicants whose area of study is in British Literature and/or periods before 1800 are preferred.
