    Position Summary
    This recruitment will be used to fill up to four part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Writer positions for the College of Liberal Arts at Oregon State University (OSU).
    The College of Liberal Arts is seeking a creative and engaging student writers who are highly motivated, enthusiastic and gifted at storytelling. This position will work closely with members of the CLA Marketing and Communications team to produce content for the college and school websites. Key areas of focus will be writing feature stories on CLA students, faculty, staff and alumni, reporting on department events, and developing content for digital, print and social media needs.

    • Create original content for the College of Liberal Arts and member school websites

    • Report on various college and school events and activities
    • Develop content for digital, print and social media

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
    • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
    • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
      • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
      • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
      • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
      • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
      • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*


    • International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

    Additional Required Qualifications
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience writing feature stories
    • Strong interviewing skills
    • Confidence to reach out directly to interview subjects and arrange remote or in-person interviews
    • Ability to take direction and complete assignments on deadline

    Preferred (Special) Qualifications
    • English, Creative Writing or New Media Communications major
    • Interest in journalism, writing or related fields
    • Photography and videography experience
