- RESPONSIBILITIES
The general responsibilities of all faculty are described in the Mount St. Joseph University Employee Handbook.
The specific responsibilities of this position include:
- Department of Physical Therapy
- Supports the mission of the university, school and department
- Participates in regular, special and standing committees in the department and depending on contract, also in school and university committees.
- Contributes to the development, assessment and revision of the curriculum
- Contributes to the development and revision of departmental policies in relation to admissions and retention, evaluations of clinical readiness, clinical education, and graduation.
- Assists in the development and evaluation of the department’s strategic plan
- Assists in the assessment of the program outcomes and goals
- Acts in accordance with the department’s professional and ethical standards (APTA Code of Ethics, APTA Core Values)
- Accepts leadership responsibilities within the department
- Participates in the recruitment of qualified faculty and students, including an annual interview day and orientation week
- Supervises the activities of adjunct lab instructors, as applicable.
- Contributes to the mentorship and evaluation of students on clinical education experiences.
B. Teaching and Learning Environment
- Develops syllabi that set clear expectations with respect to the learning environment, course assessments and grading criteria.
- Selects, plans, organizes, and implements learning experiences in assigned courses which assist students to meet course, curricular and program outcomes
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of subject matter
- Is organized in course schedule, activities and assessments
- Shares clear and appropriate expectations with students
- Demonstrates the ability to integrate related content areas to serve the curriculum
- Uses creativity in developing an interactive learning environment
- Maintains an open, inclusive learning environment where students feel valued
- Provides feedback that is timely, clear and inclusive
- Evaluates students based on course outcomes, identifies strengths and areas needing improvement, and facilitates the development of strategies for improvement and mastery of subject area
C. Professional Competence
- Demonstrates knowledge of current trends in healthcare, PT and PT education
- Demonstrates creativity in learning strategies, assessment and practice
- Actively participates in professional organizations and community activities
- Demonstrates commitment to professional growth
- Actively participates in scholarly activity as required by CAPTE
- Participates in continuing education for their areas of expertise and expands knowledge through an exploration of research literature.
- Collaborates with colleagues in PT and in other disciplines
D. Advising/Mentoring
- Maintains a number of advisees from year 1 to year 3 of the program as directed by the department chairperson.
- Meets with advisees at mandatory times as directed by department policy
- Posts student support hours clearly each semester for non-mandatory meetings
- Supports advisees in the development and monitoring of action plans
- Interprets university, school and department policies for advisees
- Facilitates clarification of degree requirements
- Provides professional mentorship and guidance
- Displays compassion, caring and respect to advisees
- Maintains professional boundaries and sets limits with students
- Makes appropriate referrals and assists students to seek professional counseling and remedial opportunities when necessary
E. Scholarship
- Stays up-to-date on literature and research relevant to their area of instruction
- Maintains APTA membership
- Maintains Ohio PT license
- Has an active research agenda
- Disseminates scholarly work to total at least 1 product every 2 years
F. Citizenship
- Participates in service activities to benefit their profession and/or community
- For individuals on a professional, tenure-track, or tenured contract: serves on at least one school and/or university committee
- Attends Faculty Assembly and participates in shared governance
- Engages with PT students outside of the classroom environment
Qualifications
A. Educational
- PhD, EdD, DHSc or other academic doctoral degree preferred
- If no academic degree, DPT and ABPTS clinical specialty required
B. Professional
- Current Ohio physical therapy license
- Teaching experience in higher education preferred
- APTA Member
- Demonstrates commitment to collaborating with colleagues in other health science disciplines
- Serves as a professional role model for colleagues, students and the professional community

- Personal philosophy of PT education is consistent with that of the university, school and department
