Asst. Professor - Special Education teaches courses in the discipline area of special education. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Asst. Professor - Special Education provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Asst. Professor - Special Education typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and contributes to research In a specialized field.     Reports to:         Building Principal and/or Department Head

     

     

     

    Position Responsibilities:

     

    • Teach students specific skills and strategies to help them access curriculum
    • Conduct IEP meetings and complete all related paperwork in a timely fashion
    • Monitor student progress; revise IEP according to progress
    • Co-teach in regular education content area, or teach substantially separate subject
    • Prepare students for transition to post-high school life
    • Communicate with school personnel outside of the department
    • Communicate effectively with parents and other stakeholders

     

    Job Qualifications:

     Attendance at departmental and school-wide meetings

    • Requisite licensure as defined by the DESE and SEI Endorsement
    • Experience implementing all parts of the IEP process
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • A strong commitment to helping a wide variety of culturally diverse students achieve their full potential
    • Ability to support the development of culturally responsive programs and activities that promote student engagement, family engagement, community involvement and a positive school climate
