Job Summary: Under the supervision of a physician, athletic training encompasses the following domains: prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities. The Athletic Trainer shall serve as a liaison of health support between patients, coaches of the patients, athletic directors, healthcare providers, parents and necessary school staff.
Responsibilities:
The athletic trainer is available before, during, and after all athletic events.
Coordinate with the Athletic Director to provide athletic training services.
Assess and report the progress of recovering patients to coaches and healthcare providers.
Conduct an initial assessment of a patient's illness or injury in order to provide emergency care or determine whether a patient should be referred to healthcare provider(s) for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
Develop and implement individualized rehabilitation and reconditioning for injured students.
Attends team practices, off-campus sporting events and contests, as deemed necessary.
Implement comprehensive rehabilitation program(s) for athletic injuries as necessary.
Plan and implement comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention programs.
Provide First Aid and emergency care to the visiting team patients if notified to do so by game officials, site officials or the visiting team coach.
Provide advice to patients, coaches, and parents to the care and prevention of athletic injuries, recommended protection, and safety ideals to an injury.
Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Experience:
Basic principles of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, health education and nutrition.
Experience diagnosing signs and symptoms and related treatment of various physical injuries.
Basic principles, techniques and procedures used in the prevention, care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
Experienced with various types of therapeutic treatments, equipment and conditioning programs.
Knowledge of safety guidelines and regulations in athletic and therapeutic activities.
Experienced in safety and protective equipment used in sports.
One year experience as a NATABOC Certified Athletic Trainer.
Certifications:
RI Athletic Training License required (to be obtained prior to hire date).
NATABOC Certification, required.
Maintain NATABOC Certification Continuing Education Units (CEUs) every reporting period, as required.
Appropriate Emergency Cardiac Care certification as required by the BOC.
Authorized to work in the USA
Current national background check without disqualifying results at time of hire.
