Attorney is responsible for using specialized knowledge of national, state, and/or local laws to advise and represent clients and organizations in criminal or civil proceedings and other legal matters. Provides legal advice and counsel in support of business activities and transactions. Being an Attorney researches and interprets existing laws and regulations and anticipated changes to laws to guide informed decisions and reduce risk. Prepares and reviews various agreements, contracts, and other legal documents. Additionally, Attorney represents the organization in litigation, negotiations, and other matters where legal counsel is required. May have a billable hours requirement. Requires a JD. Requires State Bar membership. Typically reports to a manager. The Attorney work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Primary duties include:- File review and legal analysis of claims and causes of action
- Extensive legal research and drafting of substantial briefs, memos, pleadings, and appellate briefs
- Regularly representing clients in court, at arbitrations and in depositions
- Drafting and responding to discovery requests
- Expert witness retention and collaboration
- Trial preparation and attendance
- Some travel may be required
- 2-4 years of civil litigation experience with an emphasis in insurance defense
- Familiar with handling civil cases from beginning to end,
- Experience taking and defending depositions to include 30(b)(6) and experts, drafting and arguing substantive motions, attending hearings and trials
- Experience participating in negotiations and mediations
- J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school
- Admitted to practice in the state, other states a plus but not required
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
- Solid research abilities and written and oral communication skills
- Strong work ethic, ability to self-manage and work in a team environment
- Must respond promptly to e-mail and phone inquiries
- Excellent client skills and telephone manner
