BUSINESS ANALYST

Reports to: Chief Operations Officer
Status: Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt
Location: Anchorage, AK

JOB SUMMARY: The Business Analyst leverages data and analytical tools to support the senior leadership team at The Aleut Corporation (Aleut) by extracting valuable insights to assist in making data-driven decisions. This role specializes in business analytics services such as business intelligence, market research and analysis, and dashboard creation for business units and integrated services groups. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Embrace the values of Aleut including honesty, integrity, accountability, respect, and perseverance. 

• Understand the decision-making process, workflows, and business and information needs of business executives. 

• Translate business needs into analytic/reporting requirements to support executive decisions and workflows with required information. 

• Familiar with profit and loss statements, financial modeling toolsets and able to create projections based on a set of assumptions and variables. 

• Coordinate with knowledge workers to understand their information needs and identifies ways to visualize and present information in a user-friendly manner.

• Proactively mine data warehouses to identify trends and patterns and generate insights for business units and senior leadership.

• Support user experience specialists and information architects to enhance information visualization through the development of dashboards and user interfaces.

• Work closely with information managers, architects, and business units for knowledge sharing, mentoring, and training.

• Develop analytical strategies to solve business problems by understanding the business problem, identifying relevant data, gathering and summarizing data meaningfully, and applying appropriate statistical analysis.

• Transform complex data into easy-to-follow reporting through graphing, charts, and dashboards.

• Work as a team member with flexibility and adaptability.

• Perform all other duties as assigned. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Ability to extract, manipulate, visualize, and model large datasets. 

• Knowledge of data warehousing tools and software.  

• Ability to make decisions, solve problems, and take initiative to improve processes and procedures. 

• Ability to perform functional requirements analysis and business domain analysis. 

• Strong communication, summarization, and presentation skills between diverse audiences. 

• Ability to identify patterns, correlations, and trends from data that can provide insight into business operations, customer behavior, or market dynamics. 

• Ability to stay up to date with the latest trends, techniques, and tools in data analysis, machine learning, and business intelligence. 

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with the leadership team, managers, co-workers, and outside contacts. 

• Excellent oral and written communication skills utilizing proper grammar, spelling, editing, and proofreading.

• Strong influential skills with the ability to glean insight and translate them into business recommendations for leadership team. 

• High level of organization with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines. 

• Knowledge of Aleut, its subsidiaries, non-profits, and resources within the region. 

• Maintain a high degree of confidentiality, integrity, and tact in dealing with sensitive information. 

• Possess and demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity.

• Possess strong analytical skills to review, evaluate, and synthesize information.

• Proficient in Adobe and MS Office Programs including Excel, Word, Power Point, SharePoint, and Outlook.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, management information systems, finance, statistics, or related field; OR an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

2. Five (5) years of related experience as a data analyst, business analyst, market research analyst, financial analyst, statistician, or experience in a similar role. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience at Alaska Native Corporations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. General office demands.

2. Must have ability to maintain assigned work hours in a 40 work hour environment.
