Job Summary
Xavier University of Louisiana is accepting applications for Campus Police Officer. The Campus Police Office will ensure and maintain a secure campus environment; provide protection and security of persons, facilities, and property; provide direct positive interaction with fellow supervisors, patrol officers, dispatchers, campus faculty, students, and the local community surrounding the university; perform administrative duties; patrol campus buildings and adjacent areas; enforce University and department policy, rules, regulations, and city code of ordinances. Provide emergency medical assistance; investigate crimes or other incidents; take appropriate legal action including making arrests when necessary; provide assistance to the courts or grand juries in the prosecution of cases; and any other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Several years of experience in law enforcement, preferably in a University setting. Some experience performing public safety or security duties. CPR and First Aid certification. Some knowledge of criminal laws, case laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, juvenile procedures, effective policing practices and due process. Knowledge of effective communication strategies. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Effective problem-solving skills and techniques including when serving diverse community members or situations. Good skills of observation and memory. Demonstrated ability to interpret, explain and apply established policies, procedures, case laws, and regulations. Ability to treat others with dignity and respect regardless of the situation. Demonstrated ability to make decisions based on established standards and an accurate assessment of situations. Demonstrated ability to make decisions, initiate actions to meet established objectives or deadlines. Demonstrated ability to complete required documentation, and reports with accuracy. Ability to effectively utilize windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite and similar products used to generate documents and facilitate communications. Demonstrated ability to work both as a member of a team, as well as independently. Ability to work with aggressive or emotionally unstable persons while maintaining a professional demeanor. Demonstrated ability to provide services with superior community relations skills. Requires ability to deal courteously and effectively with a culturally diverse community. Ability to work shift work, during inclement weather, or emergency situations- Designated as Essential Personnel.

Special Requirements Summary
Physical Requirements: Must be able to walk, run, stand for long periods of time and climb stairs, be able to stoop, bend, and lift over 80 pounds. Must work a rotating shift schedule which includes days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Some overtime required. Must successfully pass a criminal background investigation. Must be able to complete the City of New Orleans Special Officers Commission certification, and the Louisiana State Peace Officer Standards and Training program within one year of hire. Considered “essential personnel” for emergency conditions/inclement weather and expected to report to duty during these conditions.
