    Job Description:

    This is a full-time 12-month exempt position. Given the nature of the position, some occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Ability to work a hy-flex schedule during summer months.

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    The Director of Campus Recreation and Wellness provides leadership, management, and vision for campus-wide comprehensive recreation and wellness programs for students, faculty, and staff members. More specifically, this individual leads the campus recreation team and all campus recreation initiatives including oversight of the campus recreation center, access and scheduling of facilities, programming, a robust club sport program, and intramurals.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Responsible for overall management, philosophy, vision, assessment, and strategic planning for the campus recreation and wellness program
    • Supervise two dozen student employees, Associate Director for Campus Wellness, Assistant Director for Campus Recreation, Coordinator for Campus Recreation, including staff selection, training, scheduling, and evaluation
    • Oversee facility maintenance including management of maintenance contractors for facility equipment; submit and monitor completion of work requests to University Facilities Management Department and coordination of cleaning and equipment repairs
    • Collaborate with students and other campus stakeholders to implement and widely promote engaging recreation programs, wellness initiatives, and intramural events
    • Manage alumni and other fitness center memberships and maintain databases
    • Administer departmental budgets including oversight of all purchasing and inventory
    • Coordinate program promotion, wellness education, and communication strategies through website and social media outlets
    • Offer scheduling support to the University athletic department, campus groups, and guests utilizing the campus recreation facility for events and practices
    • Actively work with student committees to develop and implement student programs and determine student needs
    • Serve on committees and provide leadership regarding vision and strategic priorities related to wellness (e.g., Core, wellness workgroup, etc.)
    • Provide on-site emergency response and mitigate risk as needed
    • All other duties as assigned


    Requirements:

    • Master's degree required
    • Minimum of two years college recreation/sport work or related experience required in addition to one year of management/supervisory experience
    • Must be enthusiastic about engaging with college students and working collaboratively with campus partners. Attention to detail, strong organizational, collaborative interpersonal communication skills, and ability to multi-task required
    • Some lifting is needed (weight does not typically exceed 50 pounds)
