  • JOB PURPOSE: Provides for an ongoing program of activities designed to meet the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident in accordance with a Comprehensive Assessment.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Plans, organizes, directs and facilitates program of activities. Plans and provides entertainment, intercommunication, exercise, and relaxation to all residents. Activity planning provides all residents the opportunity to express creative talent and fulfill basic psychological, social and spiritual needs. Plans activities according to physician written restrictions and limitations for each individual resident.
    • Initiates and promotes activities within and outside of the facility.
    • Schedules entertainment with paid and volunteer performers.
    • Writes, designs, prints and distributes a monthly activity calendar.
    • Encourages craft activities and hobbies among residents in groups or individually on nursing units, in recreational areas or in resident rooms. Provides craft materials and supplies, instructs and supervises residents during craft activities. Responsible for safety of residents under his/her supervision. Complies with safety regulations and policies.
    • Supervises trains and assigns activities assistants and volunteers.
    • Attends in-service training programs and meetings designed to increase professional knowledge and improve job performance.
    • Encourages social communication among residents through group activities.
    • Plans parties, provides games, and encourages residents to assist in planning activities.
    • Schedule movies, obtains films, and operates projector.
    • Plans trips and arranges for transportation and supervision.
    • Encourages residents to participate in religious activities to fulfill their spiritual needs. Arranges visits with chaplains and provides spiritual reading material.
    • Encourages intellectual/educational development through literature, lectures, movies and cultural events. Visits bedroom bound residents and assists them to write letters, run errands, etc. Provides library service for residents in cooperation with local library. Provides reading materials in Braille and recorded materials for blind residents.
    • Completes Activities portion of MDS
    • Maintains resident care plans.
    • Prepares and submits reports as directed by Administrator.
    • Coordinates Resident Council Meetings monthly. Acts as liaison and support to Resident Council.
    • Maintains monthly budget and record of expenses.
    • Participates in Quality Improvement Committee.
    • Educates staff in compliance of Dementia training requirements. 
    • Performs all job functions in a safe and hazard free manner. Actively supports our  commitment to providing quality  service on all  objectives, with an emphasis on continual improvement.
    • Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
    • Reports to the appropriate managers any known or suspected violations of policy and procedures, regulations or standards of conduct.
    • Performs additional duties as assigned.

     

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    ·     Activities Director Certification preferred

    ·     Aptitude and some training in arts and crafts

    ·     Ability to plan and organize recreational activities

    ·     Experience working with Geriatric population preferred.

    ·     High School Diploma or equivalent required. College preferred.

    ·     Supervisor experience preferred

     

     

    SUPERIVISON OF OTHERS:

    Directs and delegates the management of professional and ancillary activity department staff.
