OFFICIAL TITLE: Director of Career Services
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Vice President Student Affairs/Dean of Students
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises other professional staff and student employee personnel assigned to the area.
General Statement of Duties: The Director of Career Services provides leadership and direction for a comprehensive career development program to support the University's students in making informed decisions regarding undergraduate and postgraduate plans by providing resources and opportunities to encourage career exploration and self-assessment. This position directs the operation, policy-making and development of career services for students. The role requires active and innovative outreach to alumni, employers, donors, and members of WSU and external communities, and engagement of these constituents in the mission and work of the department.
Responsibilities:

- (E) Provides leadership, strategic vision, and administrative oversight of campus-wide programs, services, and operations for the career services office.

(E) Leads office in support of the University's strategic plan concerning career outcomes for students and graduates.

(E) Consistently review, evaluate, implement, and contribute to best practices and innovations in career development.

(E) In collaboration with the Associate Director of Employer Relations, develops and maintains partnerships and relationships with businesses, industry, and nonprofits to ensure maximum opportunities for students and alumni.

(E) Establishes and implements departmental policies promoting equitable student and staff success.

(E) Engages with internal and external constituents to maintain and further develop the scope of services, internship opportunities, and resources for career planning programs.

(E) Works closely with faculty, staff, and student organizations in the planning and presentation of career panels, classroom presentations, networking opportunities and other career-related events/seminars.

(E) Recruits, hires, onboards and encourages the growth of a diverse team which includes an associate director, assistant director, administrative assistant, and student employees.

(E) Counsels students and alumni on an individual and group basis regarding career planning and employment issues.

(E) Identifies student needs for information and advising on career planning, internships, employment, and graduate schools. In collaboration with staff, creates programs, services, marketing materials and publications to meet those needs.

(E) Prepares annual department report to include data collected from the first destination survey.

(E) Ensures that career information and resources are current and accessible to the campus community, through the online job and internship database, career services website, passive education, and other electronic and hard-copy media.

(E) Addresses students, families, faculty, student organizations, and other administrators on career-related issues.

(E) Maintains close partnerships with Advancement/Alumni Relations, Marketing/Communications, Enrollment, Financial Aid and other campus departments.

(E) Chair a campus-wide career advisory group with key campus partners focused on establishing a full integration model of career services at Worcester State.

(E) Regularly build and develop strong relationships with academic departments regarding industry trends, career development and internship opportunities.

(E) Serves on a number of campus committees and/or planning groups.

(E) Encourages and plans professional development activities.

(E) Oversees departmental budget.

(E) Maintains membership and active involvement in professional organizations

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in student personnel, higher education, human resources or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of experience supervising professional staff in a college/university career center.

Demonstrated successful experience in forming and maintaining excellent relationship(s) with various constituents both on and off campus.

Knowledge of career development theory and its application.

Understanding and appreciation of the growing role technology plays in delivery of career services.

Experience with career-related technology and website management tools

Excellent oral/written communication skills and teaching/presentation skills.

Ability to work some evening or weekend hours for the purpose of representing the department at university events such as orientation sessions.

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to successfully pass a thorough background and CORI check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Full-time experience on a college/university student services staff.

Important knowledge and capabilities necessary include career counseling techniques, knowledge of job trends and career development skills, and effective public relations and networking abilities.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position. The firm annual salary range for this position is $90,000- $95,000, commensurate with relevant professional experience and education.
