    SUMMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION : Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Advancement, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Development is a member of the Advancement division senior management team and is responsible for managing the major gift and annual giving efforts of the University, while managing a portfolio of principle gift prospects.

    As part of the University Advancement leadership team, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Development will work with other senior leaders to achieve fundraising goals and maximize the level of support for the University.

    EXAMPLES OF PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

    • Directly manages the major gift and annual giving efforts of the Advancement division.
    • Works with the Vice Chancellor and frontline fundraisers to create and implement a strategy around annual and major gift fundraising programs, as well as planned giving opportunities.
    • Partners with Deans, faculty and volunteers in the fundraising process.
    • Supervises Advancement Officers, Directors and the Annual Giving team.
    • Manages a portfolio of high-net-worth donors and prospects.
    • Works in conjunction with the Vice Chancellor for Advancement to oversee the strategic and technical aspects of the University’s comprehensive fundraising campaign.
    • Oversees the day-to-day campaign operations, and serves as a liaison to external campaign consultants.
    • Collaborates with Advancement colleagues to create a plan for use of the University’s senior leadership in campaign efforts.
    • Monitors campaign progress and identifies opportunities and challenges.
    • Assists the Vice Chancellor in the oversight of the Campaign Executive Committee.
    • Communicates effectively with the Vice Chancellor, Advancement leadership team, Deans and other University officials to update them on the status of the campaign.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor for Advancement.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    EDUCATION : Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferred

    EXPERIENCE : Significant (ten or more years) experience which includes a proven track record in both major gift fundraising and the management of a frontline fundraising team.

    Proven ability to motivate, engage and work with prospects and volunteers, university leaders, administrators, faculty, and staff.

    Demonstrated experience in managing and growing a diverse group of Advancement specialists.

    OTHER : Local, regional and national travel may be required, as is flexibility in work hours to include evenings and weekends in order to successfully accomplish objectives and satisfy goals.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

    • Top-notch relationship building skills and internal organizational skills a must.
    • Experience in higher education and managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment is necessary.
    • Prior major gift and planned giving experience and knowledge of advancement functions in complex organizations preferred.
    • High level of attention to detail in all communication.
    • Excellent customer relations skills in order to interact with staff, alumni and leadership donors.
    • Management skills to directly manage the frontline fundraising staff and development support personnel.
    • Substantial knowledge of philanthropic communities.
    • Self-motivated and able to work with considerable independence.
    • High level of integrity and extraordinary work ethic.
    • Excellent organization skills involving the ability to identify and solve complex problems.
    • Proven effectiveness as a manager / motivator of staff, and as a flexible and cooperative team-builder and team leader on complex projects.
    • Knowledge of strategic approaches to problem solving and ability to engage in strategic planning to meet goals.
    • Successful track-record in defining goals and setting priorities.
    • An ability to analyze data thoroughly and to conceptualize comprehensive solutions based on that analysis.
    • Ability to estimate task sizes, set priorities, assess impact of changes and re-direction, implement workarounds to meet deadlines, and balance multiple ongoing projects.
    • Ability to work with detail as well as see the big picture.
    • A high degree of technology skills.
    • Proven track record of cultivating and facilitating relationships and have strong volunteer skills in recruiting and motivating volunteers.
    • Ability to problem solve and set priorities and achieve timely progress toward goals..
    • Possess initiative, be detailed-oriented, creative, efficient and able to handle diversified tasks concurrently.
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion while engaged with individuals and groups in personal interactions of a sensitive nature, along with the ability to reason logically and analyze and solve organizational and operating problems.
    • Demonstrate ability to operate with a high degree of independence, judgment, consistency, and discretion.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    • Master’s degree preferred.
    • Experience with iModules and CRM solutions with preference for a salesforce CRM
    • Supervisory experience in higher educational institution.
    • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups.

    ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

    • Frequent interactions with staff, managers, deans, faculty and donors
    • Participates in advancement-wide projects, meetings, events, retreats as needed, including nights and weekends and some travel.
    • Fast-paced environment. Minimal physical effort aside from event set-up and travel.
    • Occasional (10-33%) reaching, pushing, grasping and pulling.
    • Frequent (34-66%) standing and walking and lifting of up to 20 pounds.
    • Constant (67-100%) viewing of computer screen and reports, sitting, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

    MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Must be able to communicate in English (speaking, writing and reading) at a level to effectively perform the essential functions of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Development position.
    • Frequent work at a rapid pace.
