Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages daily planning, operations, and staff of a medical library to meet the information needs of users. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Responds to more complex requests from faculty, medical staff, and students. Additionally, Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) possess broad and current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.     PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner this class is accountable for performing the basic technical duties related to autopsy and postmortem medicolegal death investigations.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

    One (1) year of experience in related work in a morgue, laboratory, hospital or funeral home.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

    One (1) year experience in related work in a morgue, laboratory, hospital or funeral home;� Possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's License and be available for calls on an emergency basis; Able to physically perform lifting of bodies of weights and sizes;� �� Undergo periodic test or immunizations for communicable diseases as necessary.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel. Incumbents must be available for calls on an emergency basis.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Incumbents in this class must be willing to undergo periodic tests or immunizations for communicable diseases as necessary.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Incumbents in this class will be required to lift bodies; will be exposed to strongly disagreeable conditions.
