Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages daily planning, operations, and staff of a medical library to meet the information needs of users. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Responds to more complex requests from faculty, medical staff, and students. Additionally, Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) possess broad and current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • The CTEH Librarian is considered an expert in providing high quality research to Toxicologists and other experts as well as managing the CTEH digital library of over 66,000 items. They will work seamlessly with various experts in assisting to cite their reports using Readcube Papers SmartCite. Manage all interlibrary loan requisitions for the company and be required to keep accurate records for said requisitions as required by the National Library of Medicine lending program. Selects, acquires, catalogues, classifies, circulates, and maintains library materials and collections. Develops, manages, and implements various databases and information systems to catalog and access information. Performs other related duties as assigned. Vaccination against Covid-19 is strongly preferred. All employees will be subject to policies and procedures of the Company that may be dependent on vaccination status. Time Type: Full-Time Pay Range: commensurate with experience KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES The Librarian should be very familiar with advanced online searching in PubMed and utilization of MeSH subheadings. They will also be familiar with interlibrary loan policies (experience with EFTS, DocLine, and OCLC Worldshare highly preferred), collection development and management, and working with various vendors necessary to having a successful library program. They will also be proficient in Microsoft Word as they will be expected to assist with finalizing reports. Proofreading competency is also preferred. Familiarity with any citation manager (Endnote, Mendeley, Zotero, etc.) is required; experience with ReadCube Papers highly preferred. Experience conducting systematic review searches is not required, but highly preferred. The successful candidate will be confident in their ability to troubleshoot technical problems between Microsoft Word and ReadCube Papers, and able to work independently after an appropriate period of training. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & CREDENTIALS A Masters in Library and Information Sciences from an ALA Accredited university is required. Preferred is a specialization in either special libraries OR health sciences/medical libraries OR a prior scientific background. AHIP credentialed candidates will receive top consideration. Consideration could be given to those currently completing their MLIS given the right circumstances and set of experience. Completion of the MLIS during their first year of employment would be required. KEY COMPETENCIES Interlibrary loan practices. Citation management. Collection development and management. Ability to multitask and work under pressure. Thorough understanding of library principles and methods of archiving, circulating, and organizing materials. Ability to perform exhaustive research when required. Detail-oriented and organized. Excellent management abilities. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software programs.
