Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Responds to more complex requests from faculty, medical staff, and students. Additionally, Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) possess broad and current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager.     Position Summary

    We are seeking a Science Librarian to join our team of innovative, collaborative, and forward-thinking Research Librarian professionals in our Libraries and Digital Learning department. The Science Librarian will actively engage and collaborate with students, faculty, and staff on learning and scholarship projects across all disciplines, but especially those in STEM. They will work closely and frequently with the Trinity community in individual appointments and in classrooms to discover, analyze, and synthesize information.

    The Science Librarian will also provide leadership and guidance for OER (Open Education Resource) projects at Trinity. OER is a central component of the Library’s commitment to promoting equitable Open Knowledge frameworks. This important work will require collaboration with faculty, staff, and students to build new content, and instruction on using existing resources.

    Our Research & Instruction team is working together to build an information literacy curriculum that incorporates AI, remote learning, and more. The Science Librarian will be a vital member of this effort, as well as an integral member of the campus community. They will cultivate relationships across departments to deliver and improve research instruction as follows:
    • Design and deliver classroom and online information literacy instruction for STEM disciplines, assisting with other disciplines as needed.
    • Collaborate with faculty to develop, teach, and incorporate research instruction into the curriculum.
    • Provide leadership, advocacy, and guidance for OER campaigns and collaborative projects.
    • Create and maintain digital learning materials, such as research guides and tutorials, to support research instruction and promote library resources and services.
    • Engage with students and faculty individually regarding their research projects: assist in the building of research strategies, and in the discovery, analysis, and synthesis of information.
    • Participate in collection development and management responsibilities, including advising on e-resource subscriptions.
    • Partner with colleagues in developing information technology tools, services, collections, and digital projects.

    Qualifications
    • ALA accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Studies or 3 – 5 years of directly relevant experience in an academic library.
    • Academic background or job training in one or more STEM fields.
    • Working knowledge of Open Education Resources, scholarly communications, and Open knowledge frameworks.
    • Knowledge of current learning, teaching, and information literacy theory and best practices.
    • Experience teaching workshops, seminars, and classes, remotely and in-person.
    • Working knowledge of information sources, scholarly communications, and Open knowledge frameworks.
    • Strong collaborative orientation and the ability to thrive both in a team setting and individually.
    • Excellent communication skills and habits; ability to convey information to a variety of audiences, and through a variety of channels.
    • Curious and innovative mindset; dedication to learning new skills and experimenting with new strategies.
    • Must have a strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility.
