Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages daily planning, operations, and staff of a medical library to meet the information needs of users. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Responds to more complex requests from faculty, medical staff, and students. Additionally, Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) possess broad and current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner's role is to determine, through comprehensive and objective investigation, the cause and manner of death. The
    Medico-Legal Investigator assists the Forensic Pathologist in making that determination by investigating the circumstances of the death, the history of
    the decedent, and gathering of materials and records upon request of the Forensic Pathologist. The Medico-Legal Investigator is also responsible for gathering
    information necessary to confirm identification of the deceased.
    Responsibilities:
    • To request and review medical records, related documents and radiographic images.
    • Interview family members of the deceased, members of law enforcement, first responders, and medical professionals
    • Provide written reports directly to Medical Examiners
    • Interact daily with OCME staff and funeral directors.
    • Interact with law enforcement agencies or meet with families of the deceased to confirm visual or forensic identification.
    • Travel to funeral homes and crematories to conduct investigations and examinations in order to authorize cremations.

    All assignments will involve the viewing, photographing, and working near and/or handling human remains on a daily basis.
    Assignment to cremation services may require driving between 50 and 150 miles per day. This will include review of death documentation and physical exam
    of human remains. May include photographing remains and interviewing various parties to determine whether cremation approval is appropriate or further
    investigation and examination by a Forensic Pathologist is required.

    Preferred qualifications:
    • Current or previous certification or licensure as an EMT, LPN, RN, or Paramedic.
    • 'Experience in investigations
    • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, common medical treatments, therapies and disease processes.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

    Applicants must have at least (A) four (4) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, professional internship, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.

    Substitutions:

    I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

    II. An Associate's degree in a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

    III. A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.

    IV. A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required experience.

    V. A Doctorate degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience.
