Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages daily planning, operations, and staff of a medical library to meet the information needs of users. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Responds to more complex requests from faculty, medical staff, and students. Additionally, Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) possess broad and current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Chief of Cardiology

  • Description Provide clinical and administrative leadership for Division. Has primary responsibility for division's overall operations. Responsible for the care of patients in the hospital and clinics, as well as research, educational and advocacy initiatives as determined by the Center leadership.

    The Division Chief provides clinical, academic, and administrative leadership to the Division of Cardiology including inpatient work and outpatient clinics at Children's National. The span includes cardiologists, cardiology fellows, advanced practice providers, advanced cardiac imaging, echocardiograhy lab, catheterization lab, and the cardiac procedure recovery unit, etc. The Division Chief will work closely and in conjunction with the Executive Center Director and the Senior Vice President to provide oversight and accountability for the cardiology clinical operations.

    This position reports to the Senior Vice President, Heart Center. The Division Chief is an academically accomplished, operational, and strategic leader who assumes overall leadership including administrative and financial oversight of all the clinical, research, and educational activities of the Division. Specifically, this Chief has the alignment necessary for success which includes budgetary accountability and authority over the operational budgets and associated staff for the Division of Cardiology enterprise (for example this includes the clinics, technical fees, catheterization lab, and nurses who support clinics, etc.) The Chief bears responsibility for quality and safety outcomes as well as the financial performance of all clinical programs within the Division.

    The Chief works in partnership with the SVP to recruit and retain talent within the Center and oversees the hiring and termination of physicians and key administrative staff.

    Qualifications Minimum Education
    Medical Doctor (M.D.) Medical degree from an accredited medical school (Required)

    Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in the area of expertise.
    Expertise in interpersonal communication as a respectful and empathetic listener

    Excellent referring physician relations skills and demonstrated success with medical staff partnerships.
    Recognized leader in a clinical or quality domain with demonstrated academic achievements and national prominence.

    Experience in physician billing and compliance.
    Ability to incorporate ethical concepts into patient care and discuss these with the patient, family, and other members of the health care team.
    Ability to supervise, advice, and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise.
    Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
    Demonstrates a personal commitment to Continuing Medical Education and remains current on the developments and progress in his/her subspecialty.
    Previous experience managing a division, department, or program in an academic setting.

    Required Licenses and Certifications
    Fully licensed and credentialed attending staff category physician on the medical staff of Children's National Medical Center. (Required)
    Board certified or eligible for board certification in primary practice specialty. (Required)
    Board certification in relevant secondary specialty. (Preferred)

    • Cooperate and participate in the development, implementation and revision of policies affecting medical practice, judgment and quality of care; Participate as a member of special care teams, Medical Staff and hospital committees.
    • Review and prepare protocol for use by staff. Evaluate patient care according to adopted protocol and Quality Assurance program criteria. Participate in evaluation of peers and support staff; acknowledge and report medical and/or other errors as well as participate in efforts to prevent them.

    • Develop, in concert with the Center leadership, a divisional vision consistent with the mission of CNMC and a strategic plan to implement that vision.
    • Anticipate future strategic, operational and financial trends and consequences in the marketplace, technology and healthcare innovations.

    • Identify and assess all variables that may impact outcomes.
    Division Leadership
    • Establish standards and monitors the clinical performance of the division; develop policies and procedures that are necessary to support the provision of care provided by the Division and the clinical outcome/quality goals of CNMC.
    • Set the research directions for the Division and its members, in concert with the Center leadership and the Children's Research Institute.
    • Take a leadership role in promoting the activity of the Division to enhance CNMC's clinical and academic reputation within the community and, as appropriate, nationally/internationally, and work, in concert with the institution, in marketing of Division activities.
    • Develop the educational activities of the Division, including educational activities specific to the Division and the educational needs of the institution as a whole. This may include intramural as well as regional and national education.
    • Ensure adherence within the Division of the hospital and medical staff bylaws and policies and procedures.
