Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages daily planning, operations, and staff of a medical library to meet the information needs of users. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Responds to more complex requests from faculty, medical staff, and students. Additionally, Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) possess broad and current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Job Summary:
    Located at the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine at the Cherokee Nation, the Medical Librarian provides library services to students, faculty, and staff. Key responsibilities for the position include library operations, reference and instruction, document delivery, exam proctoring, and supervision of work-study students. To fulfill the goals and mission of the Medical Library, this position performs additional duties as assigned.

    Environmental Hazards:
    Possible exposure to hazardous materials, hot and cold, blood borne pathogens. 

    Physical Requirements:
    Ability to lift and carry 20 pounds, stoop, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodations.

    Position Qualifications:

    Required:
    American Library Association accredited master's degree.

    Skills, Proficiencies and Knowledge:
    --Knowledge of medical library best practices;
    --Ability to teach and explain biomedical library resource concepts;
    --Ability to provide medical library reference and instruction;
    --Ability to use videoconferencing software, Microsoft Office, LibGuides, and biomedical        databases;
    --Ability to understand and document technical instructions;
    --Ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues in a multi-campus environment.

    PREFERRED:
    --Experience in an academic health sciences library or academic library.
    --Academy of Health Information Professionals Membership from the Medical Library Association preferred
