Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Responds to more complex requests from faculty, medical staff, and students. Additionally, Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) possess broad and current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Reporting directly to the Hospital President and the Network Chief Nursing Executive, this position is accountable for collaborating with other senior executives in developing and executing the strategic plan of the Medical Center. An integral member of the site Executive Team as well as the Network Nursing Executive Leadership Team, this position is accountable for defining, planning, implementing, evaluating and advancing through innovation and research, the scope of practice, professional standards and care delivery systems as they directly relate to patient care, patient satisfaction and quality outcomes for the Medical Center. In collaboration with the Network CNE and senior Nursing leaders, defines and implements a strategic plan for care delivery systems across the Medical Center, which is fully aligned to the Network Nursing strategic plan. This role is responsible for the scope and delivery of nursing services wherever nursing is practiced within the Medical Center. In addition, this position may be accountable for the operations of other clinical departments.
