Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages daily planning, operations, and staff of a medical library to meet the information needs of users. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Responds to more complex requests from faculty, medical staff, and students. Additionally, Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) possess broad and current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals as well as other medications to patients and performs the diagnostic study per physician orders. Essential Functions: Administers radiopharmaceuticals and medications for patient imaging and therapeutic procedures. Processes data and enhances digital images using advanced computer technology. Provides images, data analysis and patient information for diagnostic interpretation or therapeutic procedures. Evaluates images to determine the technical quality and calibration of instrumentation. Processes the images for radiologist review. Manages the workflow of the department to ensure the completion of work assignments. Maintains the Nuclear Medicine employee schedule and coordinates with the other modality supervisors/lead technologists to ensure that there are no conflicts with staffing. Performs all duties of staff technologist, as required. Uses computer system in documenting correctly and accurately patient information to ensure the quality of patient care: (a) patient's full name (b) patient's medical record number (c) patient's date of birth (d) examinations performed. Works with the radiologists to set standards of quality in techniques, procedures, and patient care.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education:

    Associates Degree Required.

    Required Skills:

    Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

    Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

    Certifications:

    BLS required

    Licenses:

    Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) required

    ARRT required

    Computer:

    Basic computer skills

    Clerical:

    General knowledge of clerical duties

    SPECT experience, including cardiac procedures

    Minimum Work Experience:

    3-5 years experience as a Nuclear Med tech required.

    2-4 years leadership experience highly preferred.
