Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Chief Librarian and Dean of the Libraries will oversee the work of the Hunter College Libraries, which are comprised of the Leon and Toby Cooperman Library (including our Archives and Special Collection), Health Professions Library, Social Work and Urban Public Health Library, and Zabar Art Library.The Chief Librarian will have the vision and experience to advance the goals of the Hunter College Strategic Plan, develop and implement services that support faculty research, teaching, and learning, and implement policies and practices that promote student success. The Chief Librarianwill be expected to enhance the Libraries’ profile, visibility, and effectiveness by providing intellectual leadership that facilitates a culture of innovation, collaboration, and growth.As the chief academic officer of the Hunter College Libraries, the Chief Librarian will supervise approximately 50, full-time personnel and be responsible for:
Developing and implementing a strategic plan for the Libraries that aligns with the Hunter College mission and vision and our rich tradition of scholarly achievement, while advocating for the resources to do so;
Overseeing the expansion and use of the Libraries’ collections and services along with the implementation of ever-evolving library information systems and technological advances that support student learning, curriculum development, and research;
Serving as a strong advocate for the Libraries and the library faculty and staff;
Managing the Libraries resources by making budgetary decisions, allocating space; and communicating staffing needs;
Recruiting and hiring diverse library faculty and staff to ensure equity;
Promoting the professional development of the Libraries’ faculty and staff and evaluating and reviewing library faculty for reappointment, tenure and promotion, scholarly leave (sabbaticals), and special assignments; and
Supporting and managing a library IT department that develops and maintains its own website and manages its own servers, while ensuring that the website meets the standards set by Web Content Accessibility Guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY’s Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and eight years’ related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.
PREFERRED Qualifications
A Master’s and/or Doctoral degree in Library Sciencefrom an ALA-accredited institution of higher education and a Master’s or Doctoral degree in another field.
OTHER Qualifications
The Chief Librarian and Dean of the Libraries will have excellent communication skills and demonstrated experience in the following:
Leadership of a large public university library or a similarly complex library system with the ability to engage and collaborate with internal and external administrative systems and a diverse community of stakeholders; and
Ability to articulate a vision and build consensus among library faculty and staff (across all of the individual libraries) as to how to implement and participate in realizing the vision.
Collaborating with faculty and students in support of the advancement of their research and scholarship.
Advocacy for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience $185,000 -$200,000.
