Chief Nurse Anesthetist jobs in Alaska

Chief Nurse Anesthetist manages and schedules Nurse Anesthetists who plan, arrange and secure necessary anesthesia equipment. Aids Anesthesiologist in organizing courses of instruction for students, and partakes in resulting programs and demonstrations. Being a Chief Nurse Anesthetist prepares reports and compiles data dealing with specific anesthesia, drugs and techniques, and patients' reactions to them. Requires a master's degree. Additionally, Chief Nurse Anesthetist requires Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). Requires Registered Nurse (RN). Requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Chief Nurse Anesthetist typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Chief Nurse Anesthetist typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     • Position Complexities
     
    Evaluate patient health status and synthesize anesthetic plan based upon risk factors and surgical requirements to insure patient safety. The anesthetist is responsible for independently determining anesthetic techniques, pharmaceuticals, and procedures used, and altering anesthetic plan based on patient responses and changes in surgical conditions.  Position requires care of patients covered by Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention 
    Accountabilities 
    1.       Provides clinical anesthesia service as scheduled. This includes pre-anesthetic evaluations and determinations, administration of a variety of anesthetic agents, as well as post-anesthetic follow-up and management.
    2.       Analyzes and interprets complex medical data and utilizes this information to provide appropriate anesthetic care
    3.       Utilizes complex medical and life support equipment to evaluate and care for anesthetized patients.
    4.       Participates in all Medical Staff functions as requested.         
    5.       Responds to hospital emergencies when airway control is required.
    6.       Provides educational programs as needed regarding airway control, resuscitation, pharmacology, and theories and practice of anesthesia and pain management.
    Position Qualifications
    Education
    ·Graduation from an accredited nurse anesthesia program (Master of Science Degree) or
    ·Certificate in Nursing Anesthesiology (prior to 1990).
    License and Certifications
    ·Licensure as a Registered Nurse by State of Alaska Board of Nursing
    ·Licensure as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist by State of Alaska Board of Nursing
    ·Certification by National Board on Certification & Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.
    *Must maintain certification from National Board on Certification & Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists
    BLS - required
    ACLS- required
    PALS – required
    Experience
    ·4 years of clinical anesthesia experience after anesthesia training is completed preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    Knowledge:
    ·Advanced levels of understanding of human physiology, pharmacology and response to surgical stressors.
    ·Technical expertise in understanding of function and use of complex medical equipment to monitor and evaluate patient response to treatment.
    ·Advanced ability to evaluate respiratory status and respond appropriately to abnormality.
    Skills:
    ·Rapid recognition and evaluation of changes in patient condition.
    ·Technical expertise in airway management.
    ·Expertise in regional anesthesia
    Abilities:
    ·Maintain control of rapidly evolving anesthesia care scenarios.
    ·Rapid evaluation and synthesis of treatment modalities in emergency situations.

    ·Ability to function independent of clinical supervision in the field of anesthesia.
