Chief Nurse Anesthetist manages and schedules Nurse Anesthetists who plan, arrange and secure necessary anesthesia equipment. Aids Anesthesiologist in organizing courses of instruction for students, and partakes in resulting programs and demonstrations.     Additional Info:    This role will help develop and interpret organizational policies, communication, consulting and quality metrics.  This position is responsible for building and maintaining professional relationships with platform physician leaders, the Human Resource Committee (HRC), the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) committee, the Anesthesia Care Team (ACT) committee, management staff, and facility leadership. 

     

     

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to):

     

    • Plans for staffing needs at the facility and consults with workforce management and recruiting.  
    • Partners with platform leaders to determine appropriate CRNA staffing models. 
    • Orients new CRNAs to the practice environment and ensures competency with paperwork and understanding of responsibilities.
    • Trains Site Leaders, as needed, on the appropriate management and scheduling of CRNAs.
    • Facilitates the development and implementation of an Anesthesia Care Team model at the facility level.
    • Develops training guides and programs as appropriate. 
    • Serves as point of contact for platform leaders and actively participates in the interviewing, selecting, and hiring of qualified personnel.
    • Establishes a regular communication protocol with the South Texas CRNA community.
    • Delivers presentations to CRNAs and USAP leadership as appropriate.
    • Actively participates in the ACT committee to help develop and drive platform initiatives.
    • Attends and participates in Human Resources and Continuous Quality Improvement meetings when CRNA interests/issues are discussed. 
    • Attends operational meetings to discuss care teams and other CRNA operational topics.
    • Presents recommendations to South Texas Leadership on CRNA engagement.
    • Develops goals and measurements in collaboration with leadership and in accordance with the annual Building People Capability (BPC) timeline.
    • Works with Human Resources to counsel and evaluate CRNA personnel.
    • Contributes to administrative decision making and recommends policies and procedures as applicable.
    • Participates in local and national events and conferences, as needed.

     

     

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

     

    Education/Licensing/Certification/Experience:

    • Previous experience as Chief CRNA or similar leadership role preferred.
    • Holds current, active state licensure.
    • Graduate of a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs or its
    • Currently certified or recertified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse
    • Insurable by an appropriate medical malpractice insurer for the limits required by this institution or state.
    • Minimum of eight years’ experience as a

     

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Strong executive and leadership presence.
    • Ability to successfully navigate sensitive issues and/or concerns.
    • Maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to promote a productive and supportive work environment.
    • Problem-solving, analytical skills and the ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously are essential.
    • Attention to detail is necessary for accurately performing tasks and mitigating frequent interruptions.
    • Strong computer skills including MS Excel, MS Word, and HRIS database experience.
    • Previous experience with QGenda and Medaxion a plus.
    • Requires tact with above-average communications skills, both oral and written, and excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Must have a pleasant disposition and high tolerance level.
    • Ability to convey a positive and professional image and work effectively and independently with staff, physicians and external customers.

     

    Requirements:

    • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
    • Involves standing and walking for long periods of time.
    • Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports.
