Student Affairs Program Specialist

  • POSITION: Two full-time Coordinators of Student Activities positions are available in the Activities, Involvement, and Leadership Office beginning May 2024. The working title for this assignment is Coordinator of Student Activities with an official title of Student Affairs Program Specialist. This is a renewable assignment contigent on performance. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelors degree.
    • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to relate to the various populations of the university, including students, faculty, administrators, and community.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and constituencies.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to successfully manage competing priorities and multiple projects.
    • Ability to work nontraditional hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Masters degree.
    • Educational background in Student Affairs/Higher Education or related field of study
    • Experience working in higher education.
    • Understanding of student development theory and how it relates to working with college students.
    • Experience supervising, managing, and advising student employees.
    • Experience with Greek life.
    • Experience with event programming.
    • Knowledge of marketing best practices and social media campaigns.
    • Bilingual (any language in addition to English is a plus).
    • Demonstrated commitment to support and enhance the diversity and cultural and global awareness of students, faculty, and staff.

    General areas of duty shared with all Activities, Involvement and Leadership staff:

    • Uphold University mission, vision, and values through dedicated job performance, service excellence, and a commitment to holistic student development.
    • Meet the needs of an active and diverse studentbody and campus by maintaining an inclusive environment free of bias and leading and communicating in ways that champion equity, diversity, and inclusivity.
    • Collaborate with campus and community stakeholders to provide diverse activities that support cultural land social student development to ensure successful retention and graduation.
    • Work with student committees and AIL office colleagues to create innovative new approaches to programming in keeping with current trends of campus life and the student body.
    • Develop budgets and exercise fiscal responsibility for assigned programs, most of which are organized activities with student segregated fees.

    Specific areas of duty to be assigned among Activities, Involvement, and Leadership staff:
    • Supervise, advise, and manage details of various committees of the University Activities Commission of the Student Senate, the student body programming board. The commission includes committees: The Cabin, Concerts, Festivals, Films, Late Night Activities, and Special Events.
    • Supervise, advise, and manage details of the Artists Series and Forum of the Student Senate.
    • Chair the International Film Society Committee and administer all aspects of Campus Film Programming.
    • Serve as the Greek Life Advisor, while serving in a mentorship role to participating students. This includes but is not limited to individual support and strong relationship development, promoting accountability, programmatic support, and leadership and skill development.
    • Spearhead, maintain, and promote student engagement software.
    • Plan and coordinate the Summer Events programming.

    THE UNIT: The Activities, Involvement & Leadership office is part of the Division of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Student Affairs. We coordinate student leadership initiatives and recognition programs, volunteer services, special events, and student involvement opportunities, and work with more than 230 student organizations. We administer arts and events programming and the programs and services of the Student Organizations and Leadership Center. Our programs include the Artists Series, The Forum, the International Film Series and Summer Events. We advise Greek life, the University Activities Commission, Student Organizations Commission of the Student Senate and the Student Organizations Code of Conduct Committee.
