    School Overview:
    Nansemond-Suffolk Academy is an independent coeducational, college preparatory day school serving grades
    Pre-Kindergarten-12 at our Main campus and Pre-K-Grade 3 at our Harbour View campus. The school has a
    current enrollment of approximately 900 students and 170 employees, and sits on two campuses, 1 100-acre
    campus and a 3-acre campus, both located in Suffolk, Virginia. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy is accredited by
    the Virginia Association of Independent Schools.

    Job Summary:
    Under the supervision of the Director of Advancement, the Alumni and Community Engagement
    Coordinator will embody, manifest and advance the mission of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and lead the
    planning, organizing and directing of alumni and community engagement. The main emphasis of this position
    is to continue to engage alumni and members of the NSA community.

    Essential Functions:

    • Articulate the case for support to encourage alumni and the NSA community to understand the
    mission, vision and goals and to secure gifts to support the school;
    • Plan and implement programs to engage alumni and the NSA community in building strong
    relationships with NSA. Programs may include the creation of an alumni website, job board, alumni
    chapter program and/or an alumni mentorship program;
    • Meet with Upper School students and members of the NSA community to solicit annual fund,
    capital campaign, major gifts, endowment donations and planned gifts;
    • Support the mission of inclusivity and multiculturalism in the school and assist with initiatives to
    promote inclusion and belonging;
    • Oversee and balance the budget for events within the Advancement budget;
    • Host NSA alumni reunions in areas with high concentrations of alumni;
    • Plan, execute and manage senior class, alumni and community events throughout the academic year

    including networking events such as Homecoming, Alumni Legacy Luncheon, Senior Slideshow,
    alumni athletic events, etc.;

    • Raise funds for selected projects and events in collaboration with the Advancement team and assist
    with overall donor stewardship;
    • Ensure the alumni database and records are accurate and complete by capturing contact, biographical
    and career information of alumni via surveys, correspondence, website, postal returns and outreach;
    • Promote events for alumni and the NSA community that encourage involvement and help create a
    sense of belonging;
    • Provide coordination for and assistance to alumni class officers when planning reunions;
    • Recruit, train and manage volunteers to help with fundraising;

    • Maintain an active social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, updated website pages,
    etc.) and expand alumni communication outreach to incorporate new technology;
    • Prepare alumni donor summaries to be shared with marketing;
    • Support the Office of Advancement as needed with hosting donor related events throughout the

    year; and Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Advancement.


    Required Education/Background:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sales or Communications or related field preferred
    Prior experience in fundraising/sales, alumni relations and marketing required Experience using social media as a means to market programs Experience using Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge/databases preferred 3 – 5 years work experience preferred

    Personable, outgoing and people-oriented Familiarity with NSA’s Alumni and NSA community Excellent organizational, oral, written and interpersonal skills, as well as problem-solving, research
    and analytical skills Professional in appearance Strong work ethic and comfortable in role as a self-starter Ability to work within a team and independently
    • Ability to work well under pressure and handle complex situations with tact and poise
    • Ability to multitask effectively, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
    Proficient with Google Educational Apps and MS Office Familiarity with Blackbaud and InDesign (a plus, but not required) Must be willing to travel and must have a driver’s license.
    • Light physical lifting and event set up and break down required.
    • Weekend and evening work will be required
