Employment location: Salt Lake City-based, remote daily work, with some travel around Utah for education assignments

    Salary: $40,000

Benefits: Competitive salary, health insurance including dental and vision, paid leave, IRA contribution match, Employee Assistance Program, and per diem and travel allowances

    Start date: April 2024

The primary focus of the Community Engagement and Education Specialist is to co-administer the community engagement and education aspects of Bike Utah’s Community Assistance Program (CAP). This program seeks to support Utah communities by facilitating the five elements of successful cycling communities: complete cycling infrastructure, access to gear and maintenance, education and information, thriving cycling community, and inclusive planning and policy.

Bike Utah’s community engagement and education efforts focus on providing cycling safety education and resources to schools, drivers, and community groups within the state. At schools, this can look like teaching bike safety to elementary school students through classes and assemblies, supporting bike buses, engaging the school community in conversations on safe routes to school, developing curricula, and more. In communities, this can look like engaging underserved communities to provide bike repair days, teaching bike safety, developing new projects, and more. A good candidate does not need to be a bike expert; Bike Utah will train on cycling safety education and simple bike mechanical skills.

This role can be implemented as either a ¾ time or full time role depending on the desire of the applicant. A ¾ time role would focus on community engagement and education. A full time role would also include supporting other efforts within Bike Utah according to staff interests and organizational needs. These efforts include development, advocacy, active transportation planning, and event planning.
