Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) seeks a Community Engagement Specialist to connect the time, talent, and in-kind resources of the community to the welcoming work of LSI's Immigrant and Refugee Community Services in the Waterloo area. This role will be critical in helping acquire and maintain the necessary volunteer and in-kind resources needed to welcome newly arrived refugees and Afghan evacuees.
What You'll Do
The Community Engagement Specialist will develop and manage relationships with churches, faith, civic, educational, and service communities in order to develop volunteer teams that will provide in-kind and volunteer support to support the success of newly arriving families. Outreach will be conducted through various outreach and networking techniques. Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers and volunteer teams. Provide cultural, educational, and advocacy resources and training to the community and volunteers. Connect newly-arrived refugees and refugee families to supportive community groups, faith based groups, or individual volunteers. Manage the collection, disbursement, record, and recognition of donations of in-kind material items, volunteer time, and financial support related to volunteer teams. Physically move donations as necessary. Function alongside resettlement case managers, and serve as a liaison between new arrivals, volunteer teams, and agency staff.
What You'll Need
Required: Bachelor's degree preferred; Experience networking and managing relationships, particularly with faith communities; experience with public speaking, presentations, and community training; skilled in interpersonal and intercultural communication.
This position requires a valid driver's license, auto insurance, a good driving record and the ability to pass an extensive background check including checks of the Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, Sex Offender registry and a criminal history check.
