Community Relations Manager manages programs supporting the corporate strategy designed to promote and represent the organization and brand as a socially responsible force in the community. Creates and plans outreach programs that engage, support, and partner with the community and produce a positive impact to address local issues. Being a Community Relations Manager collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to develop clear objectives and deliver meaningful and measurable results. Supports community relations programs' entire life cycle, including coordinating events, managing volunteers, and executing grant proposals. Additionally, Community Relations Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Community Relations Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Community Relations Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     SEA - Intern - Marketing & Community Relations

    Description/Duties:
    The Waukegan Park District is offering an internship to students working towards a degree related to community relations and/or marketing. The internship will provide a well-rounded experience focusing on community engagement and outreach through digital marketing.

    Individuals applying should be enthusiastic and highly motivated. Candidates must be a student of an accredited university pursuing a bachelors or masters degree in communications, marketing, or a related field. All necessary requirements must be met with the respective college or university to be eligible for an internship.

    Applicant must have personal transportation. Applicants are encouraged to apply early.

    Essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Assist with planning, organization, implementation, and oversight of promoting the district and its activities and services to residents.
    • Assist in development of information and materials to keep the district website updated.
    • Assist in the development and composing of materials informing the media about district activities.
    • Assist in assembling materials, coordinating stories and information, and editing the district program guide.
    • Assist with coordination and review of district advertisements for media.
    • Assist in taking photos and videos of district events/activities/facilities, personnel, editing photos and videos, and posting photos and videos to the website, social media, newsletters, internal photo library, and YouTube.
    • Establish a cooperative working relationship with co-workers, community agencies, and organizations.
    • Attend department and park district meetings and in-house training sessions.
    • Perform duties in compliance with the policies and procedures established by the park district.
    • Participate in the park district safety and training program to ensure that work performed, and services provided are done in a safe manner.

    Qualifications


    Education:

    • Currently enrolled as a student or recently graduated from a four-year university with a major in public relations, communications, marketing, advertising, or graphic design preferred.


    Experience:

    • Minimum of one (1) year work experience related to the internship preferred. Candidates will be asked to share examples of their previous work.


    Knowledge:

    • General knowledge of social media, photography, videography, editing software and communication principles.


    License/Certification:

    • Valid driver's license required.

     

    Hours:
    Candidates should be prepared to work 40 hours per week: Monday through Friday with various evening and weekend hours.
